GENERAL SUMMARY:

Collects, codes, scores, and develops processes for validation of data. Uses registry information to facilitate performance improvement, trend reports, and research while maintaining confidentiality. Participates in performance improvement by monitoring clinical outcomes and system issues related to quality-of-care delivery, developing quality filters, audits, and case reviews as well as identifying trends. In collaboration with leadership, supports and maintains stroke operations, personnel, and financial aspects of the stroke program as appropriate. Responsible for communicating data results and information with key stakeholders, educating providers, staff, patients, emergency personnel, providers from external facilities, and the community on relevant program topics. Continuously consults with staff, providers, and leadership on methods to meet and maintain regulations and standards related to patient care.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Maintains current knowledge of and is a content matter expert in all standards and regulations associated with Primary Stroke Certification and patient care.

3. *Develops and maintains the stroke program.

4. *Represents the stroke program on hospital committees and statewide coordinator committees to foster and enhance optimal stroke care, provision, and management.

5. *Ensures compliance with certification and designation requirements.

6. *Acquires and maintains certification and designation levels agreed upon by the appropriate medical staff leaders, senior leadership, and the board of managers.

7. *Develops and maintains processes to accomplish collecting, coding, scoring, and developing processes for validation of stroke data and submission in stroke registry.

8. *Analyzes information abstracted to identify areas of improvement needed and develops and facilitates the implementation of performance improvement action plans.

9. *Proactively communicates data results and information with key stakeholders.

10. *Educates providers, staff, patients, emergency personnel, providers from external facilities, and the community on relevant stroke program related topics.

11. *Acts as a stabilizer in the complex network of people and disciplines who work together to provide quality stroke care.

12. *Serves as an internal resource for staff in all departments as well as an extended liaison for Emergency Medical Services in the service area

13. Treats patients, staff, and families with respect and dignity, and routinely evaluates the effectiveness of educational programs offered.

14. Communicates clearly and professionally with the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the organization in mind.

15. Builds and fosters relationships with staff, providers, and other leaders in all departments of the organization.

16. Acts as a leader of the department, supporting the manager and other members of leadership, as a liaison with patients, physicians, and employees to facilitate communication, increase satisfaction, and ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.

17. *Develops and reviews policies and procedures as assigned. Provides education to staff regarding process and policy updates.

18. Participates in and fosters culture of teamwork and respect throughout the department, engaging effectively with all stakeholders, e.g., physicians, staff, outside contractors, and the people served.

19. Provides leadership and mentorship in the development of staff.

20. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

21. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

22. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

1. Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient's growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies.

2. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

3. Ability to be flexible, organized, and function in stressful situations.

4. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

5. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.

6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.

8. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

9. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

10. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required. Bachelor's degree in nursing or enrollment in a program within six (6) months of

hire required. Master's degree in nursing or another applicable field preferred. Minimum of two (2) years intensive care or emergency department nursing experience required. An additional two (2) years of experience in an education role or formal training in education preferred. Experience with data collection, input, and analysis preferred.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within six (6) months of hire.
