Departmental Overview

The People & Organization Development (POD) team is part of Berkeley People & Culture. Our goal is to help individuals, groups, teams, leaders, and in general, our campus, grow. We do this in many ways, over many modalities, meeting people where they are and giving them the support and tools that they need to grow at UC Berkeley.

Position Summary

This role is responsible for management of our campus Learning Management System and team, tracking and meeting goals for campus compliance training, leadership and continuing improvement of our staff performance program (Achieve Together), and organization consulting in areas such as (but not limited to) strategic planning, succession planning and cultural climate initiatives.

Responsibilities

Performs the most complex and advanced analysis techniques, understands past performance and determines present and future performance and / or resource allocations.

  • Act as an internal support consultant for P&C and campus as needed for programs (foundational skills development, Achieve Together, Grow Your Impact consulting, Campus Climate Core Team, etc.) that fall within the scope of this portfolio

Exercises wide judgment in selecting and developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining appropriate results and resolution of organizational effectiveness issues.

  • Oversight and management of Achieve Together, including collaboratively collecting and sharing necessary campus data with the Total Rewards team when the merit program is available
  • Oversight of mandatory leadership training (Grow Today) completion, including collaboratively collecting and sharing necessary campus data with the Total Rewards team to ensure all required staff have completed the training in order to receive merit
  • Provide support to campus in the scoping, selecting and adoption of tools related to foundational skills development initiatives (including but not limited to): AT Form, FWA forms, Merit Roster Updates as needed (partnership with Total Rewards), Other DocuSign forms that fall within the scope of this portfolio

Assesses highly-complex situations.

  • Day-to-day management and support of the People & Culture LMS team
  • Acts as a coach for the Korn Ferry 360, Focused 90 and other strategic advising and coaching programs and collaborations

Develops unique solutions, works with clients, usually senior leadership or their staff to address issues and implement solutions in alignment with strategic goals.

  • Act as the Liaison between the UCB campus and OP's LMS / Compliance teams
  • Work with OP to ensure campus needs are being met with systemwide initiatives in the area of foundational skills development (compliance training): SV/SH Prevention, Cyber, Ethics, etc.
  • Visions and leads new campus- and system-wide initiatives focused on improving efficiency, culture and / or strategic success

Provides collaborative leadership and consultation, strategic planning, design and facilitation and high-level project management on complex, multi-faceted problems to achieve strategically aligned solutions.

  • Partnership with OFEAW and other academic departments to ensure that foundational skills eCourses (compliance training): SV/SH Prevention, Cyber, Ethics are tracked and successfully completed by all campus audiences
  • Partners with Berkeley People Management team to design, deliver and lead the Integrated Group Coaching segment of the Grow the Organization Program
  • Partners with POD colleagues in leadership and management of select programs, for example (and not limited to): the BPM Executive Coaching Program
  • Act as a leadership coach and organization consultant in support of the work of People & Culture's Grow Your Impact team

May lead cross-functional teams to solve highly complex organizational issues.

  • Oversight of the LMS (campuswide) through acting as the triage point for campus feedback related to foundational skills eCourses (compliance training): SV/SH Prevention, Cyber, Ethics, etc.
  • Oversight of Achieve Together through acting as the triage point for campus feedback related to staff performance evaluation
  • Leadership or participant role on the Campus Climate Core Team and other campus-wide groups focused on aligning campus consulting efforts for maximum organizational impact

Guides and advises less experienced organizational consultants.

  • Takes on an informal leadership role for the People & Organization Development Grow Your Impact team

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of, as well as direct or transferable experience working with and leading teams who support key campus systems, including but not limited to the campus Learning Management System (LMS), Achieve Together and ServiceNow.
  • Expert knowledge of the organizational development and effectiveness field, theories, models to assess, design and implement customized organizational interventions.
  • Demonstrates superior analytical, problem-solving, project planning and implementation skills.
  • Knowledge of the organizational environment of higher education and large research universities to understand client priorities, issues, motivations and constraints.
  • Have superior written, verbal and presentation skills for influencing and facilitating sustained change.
  • Possesses superior consulting, relationship building, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Demonstrates superior strategic-thinking and consulting skills in guiding the organization toward workable strategies and solutions.
  • Ability to facilitate and influence people at all levels.
  • Ability to persuade through both logic and appeal to positive motivations.
  • Ability to handle multiple constituencies, agendas, engagements and tasks, and to deal productively with ambiguity and conflict.
  • Demonstrates ability to learn quickly, reason, synthesize and generalize based on information obtained; sound judgment; ability to draw unbiased conclusions.
  • Ability to focus on priorities, strategies and vision.
  • Knowledge of the consulting process to effectively lead highly significant engagements from inception to conclusion.
  • Incorporates excellent skills in change management programs on a regular basis.

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • KF 360 Leadership Coaching Certification.
  • DiSC facilitation.
  • Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted annual salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $138,200.00 - $204,700.00.

  • This is a full-time (40 hours/week), career position that is eligible for UC Benefits.
  • This is an exempt monthly-paid position.
