DESCRIPTION

The Department of Pathology at UC San Diego aims to achieve the highest standards in patient care, research and education. The Department provides diagnostic pathology services in a wide variety of subspecialties with highly trained subspecialists who are recognized for their expertise. The Department's research programs are diverse and interface with a wealth of basic and translational research programs that are a hallmark of UC San Diego.

Under the supervision of the PI, the position will assist with performing standard laboratory duties including answering telephones, inventory of lab supplies, receiving lab specimens. Incumbent will prepare solutions and assist the PI and technicians in carrying out experiments and make routine analysis. Technical functions include preparation of solutions and buffers, complex reagents, performing radioimmunoassay, ELISA and operating lab equipment. Assist Supervisor and laboratory personnel in lab organization of specimens and lab procedures. Other duties assigned as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from high school or a GED and two (2) years of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural or physical sciences and one (1) year of laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience in following step-wise experimental protocols.

  • Demonstrated ability to use basic laboratory equipment including centrifuges, spectrophotometers, balances, pH meters, and electrophoresis equipment.

  • Ability and willingness to become familiar with proper handling of chemical and biohazardmaterials.

  • Familiarity with computer software to analyze data, store results and compute rawdata.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Organizational skills as they relate to maintain lab equipment and supplies.

  • Ability to work with other staff members, students, faculty etc.

  • Experience in performing ELISA based protocols

  • Ability and willingness to adhere to established UCSD guidelines for safety and environmental issues.

  • Experience in performing radioimmunoassays.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Willingness to work with biological fluids, tissue cultures and very small specimens

  • Bachelor's degree

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $53,181 - $62,703 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $25.47 - $30.03

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
