This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

The MK2 Crew Lunar Lander team is seeking aSenior Systems Engineerto lead cross-functional systems engineering from requirements through verification, integration, and operations. You will drive technical execution across spacecraft subsystems, manage interfaces, and ensure the end-to-end vehicle meets performance, safety, and mission objectives. This role is ideal for a systems engineer who thrives in complex, safety-critical programs and can balance technical depth with systems-level rigor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadspacecraft-level systems engineeringfor the MK2 Crew Lunar Lander across the full lifecycle: concept refinement, requirements, design, integration, test, and mission operations.
  • Develop and maintaintechnical requirements, including allocation to subsystems; own traceability and change control.
  • Own or co-own theverification & validation (V&V)approach: verification planning, compliance matrices, test strategy, analysis plans, and acceptance criteria.
  • Manageinterfaces(mechanical, electrical, fluid, thermal, software, operational) across subsystems and with ground/launch/mission segments; drive ICD development and closure.
  • Drivetrade studiesand architecture decisions (mass/power/thermal/propellant/safety/reliability), documenting rationale and risk.
  • Lead resolution of technical issues throughroot-cause, corrective action, and configuration management; coordinate anomaly review and disposition.
  • Support system safety and mission assurance activities includinghazard analysis, FMEA/FTA participation, and operational constraints.
  • Partner with subsystem leads (e.g., structures, propulsion, power, avionics, GNC, thermal, ECLSS, software) to ensure coherentend-to-end design.
  • Supportintegration and testcampaigns: procedure reviews, readiness reviews, test execution support, data review, and requirement closure.
  • Communicate status and technical decisions clearly to program leadership; provide mentorship to early-career engineers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering (or related).
  • 7+ yearsof relevant experience in spacecraft, launch vehicle, aerospace, or other safety-critical complex systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with: Requirements development and management (allocation, traceability, verification), Interface definition and control (ICDs)System-level trade studies and technical decision documentation, Integration and test planning/execution support
  • Ability to work effectively across disciplines and communicate clearly (written and verbal).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience oncrewed spacecraftand/or human-rated systems (safety-driven design, hazard processes, certification-style rigor).
  • Familiarity with systems engineering best practices and tools (e.g., DOORS/Jama, Jira, configuration management).
  • Experience with environmental qualification and acceptance testing (thermal-vac, vibration, EMI/EMC).
  • Experience with reliability/safety analyses (FMEA, FTA, hazard tracking) and operational concept development.

Compensation Range for:

CO applicants is $133,500.00 - $186,898.95 WA applicants is $145,188.00 - $203,263.20

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
