JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS The Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences Microscopy Core Facility is seeking a senior Part-time Core Research Technologist. The Microscopy Core Facility is one of eleven fee-for-service core laboratories operated by the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences. The Microscopy Core supports both optical microscopy and electron microscopy as well as sample preparation. The successful candidate should have abundant experience in instrument operation and maintenance, as well as core management. The facility supports research on a large variety of organisms and scales, with projects originating from PSU researchers as well as external academic, government, and industrial entities. The successful applicant must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to work both semi-independently and collaboratively with the Microscopy team, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with team members and Microscopy leadership. Responsibilities: The individual will be expected to provide training and advice to junior staff members in operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of high-end microscopes, such as confocal, multi-photon, light sheet, and super resolution optical microscopes. Additional tasks, e.g. data processing and computer networking, as well as general facility upkeep, maintenance, and organization may be applied. Education and Experience: This position will be filled at a senior level of core technologist, which requires a bachelor's degree or higher and 10+ years of experience in a microscopy core facility, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.A bachelor's degree or experience in biological sciences or microscopic imaging is desirable (biochemistry, microbiology, biological or biochemical engineering, and other related degrees). Previous experience with advanced microscopy, especially high-end optical microscopy, such as confocal and super resolution microscopy, and sample preparation are highly preferred. Experience and knowledge in imaging process and analysis is required.
