Overview
This is a foundational sales role responsible for developing merchant services business within assigned local markets, primarily focused on micro, small business and emerging commercial clients. Partners with consumer, small business, and commercial banking teams in the General Bank to develop new merchant relationships and generate non-interest income for Merchant Services portfolio. Serves as the expert for merchant payment acceptance solutions, responsible for business development, cross-selling, and collaborating with internal referral partners to promote the bank's merchant services offerings (card processing, POS solutions, e-commerce payments, value-added services).
Responsibilities
- Sales - Identifies, qualifies, and pursues new merchant accounts in the assigned market to grow the merchant portfolio, increase processing volume and generate non-interest income. Partners closely with Consumer, Small Business & Commercial banking teams, Treasury Sales Team, and other internal bank partners to generate referrals and sell merchant services. Prepares and delivers proposals, pricing scenarios, presentations, and demonstrations to prospects and internal stakeholders. Manages the sales cycle from lead generation to underwriting/approval to onboarding and implementation. Supports transitions to larger or specialized teams if complex technical/vertical needs arise.
- Develop Relationships - Educates internal consumer, business, and commercial relationship managers on Merchant Services products and solutions. Serves as a resource for branch associates through branch training, coaching sessions, and awareness campaigns.
- Service and Support - Accountable for the overall client experience while ensuring appropriate hand-off of operational or servicing needs to the designated support teams. Partners with internal operations team to identify process improvements that enhance efficiency and client satisfaction. Monitors key operational milestones like underwriting approval, hardware deployment, third party setup, and client activation and follow-up, as needed, with clients and/or internal teams.
- Payments Industry Export - Maintains strong knowledge of industry products including credit card processing methods and media, card brand rules and regulations, and competitor products and services. Utilizes expertise to recommend and explain best solutions for merchant hardware, software, and price structure during the course of sales efforts.
Qualifications
