The Fabrication Engineering Group provides rapid fabrication, assembly, integration, and test of advanced hardware prototypes for national security applications. Examples include the precision machining of fiber mounts for airborne high energy laser systems, multi-functional structures using additive processes for ground-based radar systems, custom printed circuit boards (PCBs) for space-borne data processing, and highly integrated mechanical packaging for undersea communication terminals. The group concentrates on high-complexity parts, quick-turn capabilities and activities that require concurrent engineering with program teams. Core mechanical competencies span precision fabrication, additive manufacturing, and 5-axis machining. Core PCB capabilities include automated solder paste dispensers, precise pick-n-place machines, and automated optical inspection systems. Assembly, integration, and test capabilities include integration spaces, clean rooms, vibration testing, thermal testing, and space simulation chambers. The Group focuses on state-of-the-art fabrication, operational proficiency, technical excellence and exceptional collaboration.


Position Description

The Digital Fabrication Lead (DFL) acts in a collaborative role to guide the group, program leads, staff and technicians through transformation initiatives. The DFL will work side-by-side with the fabrication engineering group office and area technical leads establishing near-term and long-term business and system priorities and metrics. The selected candidate will play a prominent role in supporting enterprise portfolio management by ensuring digital fabrication projects and initiatives are strategically aligned with the organizations desired business outcomes.



The digital fabrication lead will specifically perform the following roles:



  • Strategically guide the design and realization of digital fabrication solutions to align the operations, technical capabilities, the data, and the IT systems
  • Work with technical leads and digital engineering teams to help describe and understand the Fabrication Group's operating models by making the business model clear and explicit
  • Identify and guide people, processes and technology requirements to implement the operating models
  • Create digital system architecture deliverables that clarify strategic intentions, identify business outcomes, explore implications, impacts and risks
  • Lead the effort to optimize digital system supporting fabrication / procurement processes including supply chain management
  • Define best practices for digital fabrication processes
  • Work with the group leadership to apply, and operationalize existing, new, and emerging technologies to transform and optimize business and operating models
  • Collaborate with digital engineering teams and functional leaders to develop and execute transformation initiatives from proposal to delivery


Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the following characteristics:




  • PhD degree in engineering, information systems or related discipline.
  • A master's degree plus 5-10 years' experience will also be considered.
  • At least 3-5 years of manufacturing systems architecture and/or project management experience, strategy formulation and/or translation, business analysis/analytics.
  • Experience facilitating and leading cross-functional workshops and planning sessions.
  • Knowledge of business process management, workflow and integration methods and tools.
  • Highly innovative with aptitude for foresight, and design and systems thinking.
  • Experience in enabling and leading change.
  • Strong presentation skills, including ability to create visualizations and experience presenting to all levels of the organization.


Preferred Qualifications (not required)

  • Manufacturing experience in high mix low volume environment
  • Supply chain management experience
  • Six Sigma or Lean experience or certification
  • Proficiency in business process modeling and design
  • Change management experience and/or certification
  • Strong anticipatory, statistical and information analysis skills
  • Aegis FactoryLogix, Aras Innovator, and/or SAP experience



Must be a U.S. Citizen


Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance


Recent Graduate Hiring Range: $145,200 - $170,000

Experienced Hiring Range: $145,200 - $220,000
