Senior Product Designer - Design Systems

We are seeking a Senior Product Designer with a strong design systems focus to join our growing team. This role will be central to defining, scaling, and governing our design system to support multiple healthcare products and teams. You will drive consistency, accessibility, and efficiency across experiences while enabling product teams to deliver high-quality user experiences at scale.

What You'll Do

Design System Ownership & Strategy

  • Own the evolution of our design system.

  • Define system architecture that supports scalability across products, platforms, and workflows.

  • Establish contribution models, versioning, and governance processes in close partnership with engineering.

System-Driven Product Design

  • Design product experiences through the lens of the system, prioritizing reuse, consistency, and long-term scalability.

  • Identify gaps in the system and proactively design new components and patterns to support emerging product needs.

  • Balance flexibility and standardization, knowing when to extend the system versus introduce new paradigms.

Accessibility, Quality & Consistency

  • Ensure accessibility best practices (WCAG) are embedded into system foundations and components.

  • Set quality standards for interaction design, visual design, and usability across all system usage.

  • Audit product experiences for system alignment and recommend improvements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with visual designers to define and maintain system foundations such as color, typography, iconography, and motion, ensuring a cohesive visual language across products.

  • Work closely with product designers across multiple teams and projects to ensure consistent system adoption, identify gaps, and evolve shared patterns.

  • Partner closely with frontend engineers to align design system components with code implementation.

  • Work with product managers and domain experts to translate complex healthcare requirements into scalable system solutions.

  • Advocate for system adoption and educate teams on best practices.

Documentation & Enablement

  • Create and maintain clear, comprehensive design system documentation, usage guidelines, and examples.

  • Support designers and developers in adopting and contributing to the system.

  • Define best practices for design-to-development workflows.

Research & Validation

  • Leverage user research, usability testing, and data insights to validate system patterns and components.

  • Iterate on system solutions based on real-world usage and feedback.

What You'll Bring

Experience

  • 6+ years of UX/UI or Product Design experience, with significant hands-on work designing, maintaining, or scaling a design system.

  • A portfolio that clearly demonstrates system thinking, component design, and real-world adoption.

Design Systems Expertise

  • Deep experience with design systems, including component libraries, tokens, variants, and documentation.

  • Strong understanding of accessibility, responsive design, and platform consistency.

  • Experience designing for complex, data-dense, or regulated environments is a plus.

Tools & Craft

  • Advanced proficiency in Figma, including components, variants, auto-layout, and system workflows.

  • Strong interaction design skills with a focus on scalable patterns rather than one-off solutions.

Systems & Strategic Thinking

  • Ability to think beyond individual screens to design for ecosystems, platforms, and long-term maintainability.

  • Comfort making trade-offs between speed, flexibility, and consistency.

Communication & Leadership

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate system decisions and influence cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Experience advocating for system adoption and driving alignment across teams.

Adaptability & Ownership

  • Thrives in ambiguity and evolving systems.

  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and driven to continuously improve system quality and effectiveness.

Bonus Points

  • Familiarity with frontend frameworks (React, Storybook) and design-to-code workflows.

  • Experience mentoring designers on system usage and best practices.

Background in healthcare, enterprise, or platform design.
