Overview
The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Captain, Security Services for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). This position reports to the Director of Security Services and has administrative and operational responsibly for the New Brunswick Security and Community Service Officer divisions.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • The captain of security services will work to ensure consistency, uniformity, and interoperability of all security programs on the New Brunswick campus which include adherence to university policy, procedure, and department directives.
  • The Security Captain will ensure that unit staff comply with all department standards, operating procedures, and that division goals are met annually.
  • This position will be responsible for conducting administrative investigations within the security unit and assisting with conducting security assessments with the Security Director.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Criminal Justice or a related field, and five (5) years' experience in security, policing, military, or a related field, two (2) years of which must be at a supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Security/Public Safety principles and practice.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Valid Driver's License
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Security related certifications
  • Management experience in a unionized employee population
  • Experience in a college or university setting
  • Knowledge of Rutgers University, including RUPD-Security policies and procedures
