Ares Technical Services is seeking a Print Specialist to provide professional printing services for AFRC Office of the Chief Information Officer in support of the NASA Enterprise Multimedia and Integrated Technical Services (eMITS) contract. eMITS is the Agency's enterprise-level contract creating and delivering multimedia and technical communications through the use of the internet, digital platforms, and IT management for NASA's Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and Office of Communications (OCOMM). From photographing rocket launches and recoveries, to producing engaging videos, to information technology management, to using social media to share NASA's message, eMITS integrates services for NASA IT and provides NASA's communication to the outside world. Remote, hybrid, and onsite positions the employee bears travel costs to nearest NASA Center for badging and issue of NASA IT equipment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Using various software applications including Adobe Acrobat Professional and Microsoft Office 365, prepare electronic files for printing.
  • Operate large high speed industrial printers and/or wide format printers and to make copies of posters, drawings, photographs, reports, directives, manuals, articles, bulletins, brochures, pamphlets, or other documents.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Examine and interpret work order to determine details such as quantities to be printed, production times, stock specifications, colors, binding requirements, finishing style and color sequences.
  • Based on printing equipment capabilities and limitations, download and prepare electronic files by converting them into Portable Document Format (PDF), adjusting spacing and formatting in various software applications.
  • Select prepared paper according to color of line specified.
  • Adjust controls to regulate light intensity, exposure, developing, and printing time.
  • Replenish ink solutions.
  • Load paper and ink, position, and adjust unprinted materials on holding fixtures or in equipment loading and feeding mechanisms.
  • Input instructions in order to program automated machinery, using a computer keyboard.
  • Monitor equipment during operation maintain copy quality, and clear paper jams.
  • Inspect and examine printed products for print clarity, color accuracy, conformance to specifications, and external defects. Inform customers of formatting and/or typographical errors, missing files or documents.
  • Operate a variety of bindery equipment such as punches, cutters, binders, stapling machines, thermoplastic sealing machines, collators, and stitchers used to bind books, magazines, pamphlets, directories, and catalogs.
  • Feed covers and sheets into various machines for punching, cutting, folding, ruling, stitching, indexing, and gluing; inserts extra sheets; and collates, stacks, and packs printed material in various stages of completion.
  • Prepare finished products and documents for pick-up or delivery according to work order requirements.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, cleaning and make minor repairs or adjustments to equipment.
  • Place equipment service calls and interact with service providers.
  • Scan and print wide format engineering drawings from 17" to 36" wide.
  • Maintain compliance with the Copyright Law of the United States.
  • Provide, update, and maintain all required documentation, reports, and logs etc., manually or in electronic databases.
  • Make recommendations to improve work quality, efficiencies, and productivity.
  • Adhere to OSHA, NASA, company, and customer safety requirements.
  • Equipment Used: Including but not limited to the following: computer applications products such as Adobe Acrobat Professional and Microsoft Office 365, work order/management systems, high-speed production printers with booklet makers, notebooks, pads, flyers, brochures, printer software applications, network servers, web browsers, and other standard business office equipment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Primarily print shop and bindery shop setting performing setting, walking, standing, reaching, bending, and carrying objects.
  • Often requires lifting 30 to 50 pounds. Normal work area is adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated area where normal precautions must be observed.
  • Requires precautions and/or protective gear or clothing to potential risk from printing machinery and bindery equipment.
  • Certain commodities may be present and where certain specific safety precautions must be observed.

EDUCATION & WORK REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma, plus 5 years related experience or equivalent related experience.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Full knowledge of job and the ability to work independently and to prioritize work.
  • Complete acquaintance with and understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the job and practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.
  • Limited supervision at this level and no instruction needed on routine work, and general instructions given on new lines of work or special assignments.
  • Contacts are frequent with individuals representing other departments, and/or representing outside organizations.
  • Contacts involve obtaining or providing printing and bindery information on matters of importance.
  • Must have the ability to coordinate workload schedules and advise customers on printing and/or binding capabilities and limitations.
  • Must have the ability to operate high-speed printers and bindery equipment and the ability to work multitask assignments under limited timeframes.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain company and customer training requirements.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Proficient in Adobe Acrobat Professional, Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneNote, One Drive), SharePoint, and Box.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in full production printing environment with knowledge operating printers, wide format printers, bindery equipment including drill press, industrial cutter, laminators. Able to trouble shoot hardware and software errors, self-starter, and team oriented.
