About the Hiring Group

This position will fall with RTI's Growth Unit (Commercial Sector), which is responsible for managing how the institute pursues, wins, and grows our project portfolio. This unit works in close collaboration with RTI's operations and technical solutions units.

This position is opento remote candidates as well as those who would prefer to be hybrid or on-site at ourRaleigh-Durham, North Carolinacampus.It is expected that this position will require frequent travel and conference attendance.This role reportsto the Strategic Account Executive (SAE) and Sector Lead, Life Sciences.


What You'll Do

RTIis recruiting for aSeniorBusiness Development Specialist,Life Sciences.Theprimaryfocus of this roleis onexpanding RTI's business and impactin the life sciences industry, connectingcommercial clients toRTI'sserviceportfoliospanning from wet labs for physical experiments to dry labs for computational, data-driven work, andnonclinical and clinical services.

As aSeniorBusinessDevelopment(BD)Specialist,you willleverageyourexperience and skills inmarket and competitorresearch and analysis,theplanning and execution of effectivesales campaigns andevents, client outreach and lead generationtechniques, and accountplanningand managementtoexpandRTI's business in the life sciencessector. This role offers you the opportunity to apply your capabilitiesinclientneeds analysis, opportunity identification,andpositioning strategiestoenable RTI tosignificantlyincreaseourbusiness with both existing and new clients.

In this role,you will join a collaborative team ofcommercialbusiness development staff who specialize in the business of science.In addition to Life Sciences,our broader team'spriorities include Energy, Environmental Services, and Food&Agriculture.Although your primary focus will be on the Life Sciences sector,you will partner with theBD teamsfrom the other sectors to share best practices and providemutualbackup support, as needed.

Detailed responsibilities for this position include:

  • Conduct research and analysis ontrendsin the Life Sciencesmarket, client needs, and competitoractions.
  • Researchexisting and targetaccounts,identifykey contacts, connect with prospects, and generate interest in services and products throughtimely, regular outreach.
  • For designatedkey accounts,partner with sectorleader, clientmanagementand delivery teams to developand implementaccount plansfocused oncross-selling and buyer baseexpansion, andassistwithongoing account management activities.
  • Forotherassigned commercial accounts,playa lead role in coordinating and delivering business development support to client management and delivery teams.
  • Conduct background research for pitch meetings, help with development of BD collateral (e.g., pitch decks), document activities.
  • Participate in andlead client calls and coordinate follow-up items.
  • Use marketing and sales information services and platforms to completeactions requiredfor all phases of the sales cycle - from lead generation through closing.
  • Proactivelyanticipatecustomer needs based on market activity toidentifyemerging projects and cross-selling opportunities with current clients.
  • Coordinate with Marketing and/or Client Delivery teams to helpidentifyand execute business development opportunities, including conferences,events, and outreach campaigns.
  • Participate in marketing, accountplanningand sales pipeline meetings.Follow up on assigned tasks.
  • Contribute to the application of business development best practices, continuous improvement methodologies, tools, and training tofacilitatesuccessful business development, forecasting, and planning activities.
  • Participate inintra-group collaboration and coordination efforts related to business development and strategic planning.
  • Continuously build the RTI brand bydemonstratinghow RTI adds value to clients

What You'll Need

Minimum Qualifications Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree and at least5years ofrelevantprofessionalexperience, or aMaster'sdegree and at least3years ofrelevant professionalexperience.
  • At least2years' demonstrable experience inabusiness development,client-centric/client facing role, or similar, with aprimaryfocus on commercialcompanies.
  • Prior experience serving companiesin the Life Sciences sector.
  • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status(e.g., H-1B visa status, etc.).

Additional Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills,highlyprofessional presence,abilityto interact with seniorclientsand project delivery staff.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Familiarity with CRMtools (e.g., Salesforce)andGo-to-Market/Sales Intelligence software tools (e.g, ZoomInfo,LinkedIn Navigator, etc.).

PreferredExperiences and/or Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's, Master's,or other degreeinalife sciencesrelatedfield(e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Genetics).
  • Proventrack recordofbuildingasales pipeline within an assigned businessportfolio.
  • Experience using AI tools forbusiness development activitiesand daily tasks.
  • Demonstration ofexperience/ability tomentorearly careerbusiness development team members.
  • Experience working with a diverse set of scientificand professionaldisciplines, includingbut not limited to laboratory and statistical sciences,product commercialization,software development, and consulting/advisory services.
