Job Summary

The Environment Manager is responsible for ensuring the location meets its environmental permit compliance responsibilities, manages the plant's pollution control scrubber and waste water operations, ensures boiler operations are compliant with state and company policy, and improves the facility's environmental performance within the community.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintains staff and location in compliance with all Company, State or Federal OSHA Safety Policies and Practices.
  • Provides supervision to production operators in reference to Safe Boiler operations, Wastewater treatment, and Air Treatment equipment.
  • Leads, trains, and implements plant Standard Operating Procedures on plant air pollution control equipment.
  • Leads, trains, and implements plant Standard Operating Procedures on plant Steam Generation Equipment.
  • Leads, trains, and implements plant Standard Operating Procedures on plant waste water pretreatment, lagoon operations and Land Application System.
  • Develops, assigns, and implements CIP schedules of scrubbers and associated equipment taking production activities into account.
  • Collects and analyzes daily environmental data to make operating recommendations to plant management to ensure performance of pollution control and treatment equipment.
  • Prepares state and federal environmental permit related submittals for General Manager.
  • Ensures facility is operating withing the Company's environmental policies.
  • Is proficient developing Standard Operating Procedures for staff and contractors.
  • Comfortable and competent working and leading staff in a fast paced environment.
  • Comfortable with working off shift (night, weekend, or holiday) hours for extended periods as plant production need dictates. .
  • Forecasts needs, sources through competitive bids, and maintains appropriate spare parts inventory.
  • Proficient and is able to provide or source technical guidance in waste water lagoons, VOC scrubbers, and land application system. (i.e. recognizing and troubleshooting lagoon operations, Air treatment condensers and scrubbers (Water Shell/ Tube and Air/ Air, Packed Bed Scrubbers, Venturi's and RTO scrubbers)
  • Evaluates and decides using technical specifications provided on equipment data sheets to base performance decisions.
  • Responsible for training new personnel on Company safety procedures and safe operating standards in accordance with OSHA.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Waste Water Operator Certification (GA) or the ability to become a certified Operator.
  • High school Diploma,(GED)
  • BSc/BA Degree or AAs/ AA (or related Vocational Technical Degree.)
  • Prior experience as Supervisor / Manager.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental systems and equipment procedures.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities and able to provide leadership to staff and communications with General Manager.
  • Experience with CMMS, MS Word, and MS Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior rendering experience preferred.
  • Management experience in an agricultural / industrial business preferred.
  • Good communication skills both oral and written.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical, electronic, mechanical, and preventive and predictive maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to provide leadership and training to production personnel.
  • Team player; works well with others; ability to supervise large on-staff maintenance department.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple contractors on multiple projects, jobs, or tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to source installations of electronic, electrical, mechanical,
  • Detail oriented; well organized; ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks.
  • Good math skills.
