Job Description

The Oncology Manager oversees and advances oncology pharmacy services across inpatient and outpatient care within the medical center. This leadership role ensures safe, effective, and evidence-based use of chemotherapy and supportive care agents through collaboration with physicians, nurses, researchers, and administrators.

The manager is responsible to ensure compliance of the US Pharmacopeia (USP) and Board of Pharmacy regulation on compounding regulations.

Job Description

The Oncology Manager has accountability in implementing P&T Committee approved initiatives or projects from operation change to communication and follow up on the effectiveness of implementation. The manager also has accountability on sterile compounding management.

  • Oversee the operations of oncology pharmacy services, including inpatient, outpatient infusion, and investigational areas.
  • Develop and maintain clinical and operational policies for oncology pharmacotherapy, sterile compounding, and hazardous drug handling.
  • Provide clinical leadership and serve as an oncology pharmacotherapy expert for multidisciplinary teams.
  • Supervise oncology pharmacists, pharmacy residents, technicians and students; foster ongoing professional growth and encouragement.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and institutional regulations, as well as accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with oncologists and clinical teams to optimize chemotherapy regimens and treatment protocols.
  • Manage drug inventory, budgeting, and resource allocation for oncology pharmacy operations.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and participate in clinical research, tumor boards, and institutional review activities.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Revenue Cycle and Prior Authorization departments.
  • Support adoption of technology platforms such as EHR and clinical decision support systems.
  • Evaluate AI related State of the Art software programs such as Medication Patient Assistance program to advance cancer care for our patients.
  • Provide education to staff, patients, and trainees on oncology medications and safe handling practices.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited U.S. School of Pharmacy required.
  • ASHP Accredited Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY1) Residency and PGY2 Oncology required.
  • A minimum of three years of acute hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of preceptorship for pharmacy students and residents preferred
  • Previous experience with supervising or leading team.
  • General computer, Microsoft office and database management course is highly preferred.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (Epic) and pharmacy systems.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

  • Current valid California Pharmacy license required.
  • ASHP Accredited Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY1) Residency required. Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP) highly recommended. This could be accomplished upon hire.

Ages of Patients Served

This position is responsible for the assessment, treatment, and care of neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

Salary Range:

$99.76 - $149.64 USD Hour
