Overview
Background Information: This full-time position supports the Test Communications Team at the Atlantic Test Range (ATR) in Patuxent River MD. ATR is the Navy's East Coast open-air test range and supports aviation, weapons system, and experimentation test and evaluation (T&E) events as well as warfighter training exercises. ATR provides real-time T&E services including data acquisition, instrumentation, data analysis, recording, test management, and airspace management to DoD and commercial customers. Project management to include gathering requirements, developing plans, researching necessary hardware/software for procurement, pitching plans to leadership to gain funding, and executing projects.
- Installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining RF radios to support real-time missions.
- Installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining copper and fiber cables for data transmissions.
- Designing, installing, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining Flight Termination Systems (FTS) infrastructure to meet Range Safety and mission requirements.
- Participate in capturing and delineating requirements for Voice/Data/RF and FTS systems, Factory Acceptance Testing, developing test documentation, coordinating testing, data analysis, and developing associated reports to support Voice/Data/RF and FTS certification.
- Testing software for Voice/Data/RF communications system and FTS to ensure equipment is functioning and aligned to correctly support operations.
- Participating in technical exchange meetings to discuss system requirements and developing and implementing plans to meet those requirements
- Providing engineering support to Test Communications Team
- Documenting designs, installations, modifications, and configurations of test communications systems.
- Procurement to include researching hardware/software and services to meet mission requirements, reaching out to vendors to obtain quotes, submitting procurement packages, and tracking procurements.
- Interacting with vendors for maintenance support for both hardware and software

- BS Degree in an electrical engineering discipline from a school of engineering accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)
- A minimum of 3 years of work experience performing the stated function
- A minimum of 2 years of work experience with electrical engineering functions related to development, test, or evaluation of instrumentation systems. Possess an academic and work experience background in such areas as preparation of technical and operational test plans, execution of sophisticated tests, certification of systems, logistic support planning, technical data review, and analytical interpretation of test results.
- Knowledge of RF, basic antenna, radio, and electronics theory
- Experience with technical troubleshooting and/or problem solving
- Understanding of calculus, trigonometry, and physics
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
- Knowledge of networking protocols and dataflow desired
- C/C++ experience desired
- Lab tools knowledge/experience (drills, wrenches, pliers, voltmeter, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, etc.) desired
- Microsoft Project experience desired
- Must possess a valid driver's license and successfully pass drug screenings
Clearance Requirements:
- Currently hold or be able to obtain and maintain the proper US DoD issued security clearance, which requires US Citizenship. Security clearance eligibility may be discussed during the interview phase.
- Employment and start date is contingent upon the candidate receiving the required US DoD issued interim security clearance
Work Conditions:
- Most work performed in enclosed buildings at a desk or in data processing environments. Work will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching. Special vision abilities to perform this job are close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus. Some travel and/or overtime may be required. Note: This is not a remote or regular telework position
