Description

The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie has been caring for children throughout the Hudson Valley for over 175 years! We strive to empower children and families to achieve optimal health and well being. We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to fill the Staff Accountant within our dynamic nonprofit environment.



Position Summary

The Staff Accountant will oversee accurate and timely payroll processing, manage billing cycles and accounts receivable, and provide analytical reports as requested. As the Payroll lead, you will work closely with the HR team to ensure that payroll processes are seamless. The role will also focus on billing, data entry, invoicing and accounts receivable for various payers in the Hudson Valley.



Essential Functions and Responsibilities:



  1. Process weekly payroll for all agency employees using Paycom/BETI, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
  2. Address payroll discrepancies and troubleshoot issues, investigating and ensuring timely resolution of any payroll-related concerns.
  3. Verify timecards and benefit deductions for accuracy prior to payroll submission, minimizing errors and delays.
  4. Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees, managers, and external agencies, providing clear and timely resolutions.
  5. Prepare and submit payroll tax filings to federal, state, and local authorities in compliance with applicable regulations.
  6. Maintain payroll records in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
  7. Assist with year-end payroll activities, including preparation of W-2s and other related documentation.
  8. Prepare and transmit foster care and healthcare claims using billing software, ensuring all submissions are accurate and completed on time.
  9. Handle data entry for reimbursements, including clothing, transportation, and school lunch claims, by program cost center.
  10. Enter general ledger transactions, accounts receivable receipts, invoices, and journal entries into accounting software, maintaining accurate financial records.
  11. Track and update census data using social services reporting software, ensuring the Population List and Daily Population Memo are up-to-date.



Schedule: Monday-Friday, minimum 37.5 Scheduled hours per week

Qualifications

MINIMUM Qualifications:



  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of hands-on experience in payroll administration and accounts receivable/billing
  • Valid NYS Driver License in good condition as determined by the Agency
  • Must complete and pass a pre-employment physical, PPD and drug screen and an annual physical and PPD.



PREFERRED Qualifications:



  • A Bachelor's Degree with a focus in a related field.
  • Experience working within the nonprofit sector or foster care agency
  • Appropriate certifications
