ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP is hiring a Senior Energy Engineer to join our PacificWest team in the San Francisco Bay area. This position requires frequent travel up to 50%, including overnight stays is required.

The position is responsible for producing high quality, detailed work based on established standards, guidelines, and procedures. Precise, consistent work output is essential requiring patience and a willingness to handle and complete one task at a time. The job environment is stable, based on known relationships with people and well-defined processes. Job knowledge and competency is built through structured step-by-step training and positive, supportive coaching from management and peers. Communication with others is based on knowledge of repetitive job routines and procedures gained from sufficient on-the-job experience. Consistent, error free work based on defined regulations and standards are key measures of job performance success.

The essential functions of the position include:



  • Lead a team of up to three direct reports providing work assignment, mentorship, and training. Work closely with senior management in this regard
  • Lead energy audits, develop energy savings calculations, and develop cost estimates for energy conservation measures (ECMs) at large federal, commercial, and institutional facilities with minimal support
  • Manage all technical aspects of assigned projects
  • Provide client facing communications including regular updates and strategy discussions
  • Manage and cultivate relationships with existing clients to support continued sales growth
  • Responsible for feasibility studies
  • Responsible for engineering analysis and energy savings calculations using building modeling and bin analysis methods
  • Manage subconsultants including other engineering specialties (electrical, mechanical, structural, etc.)
  • Responsible for mechanical/electrical systems design
  • Responsible for client facing report preparation
  • Responsible for measurement and verification plan and calculations development
  • Responsible for measurement and verification process and activities including planning, data collection and reporting
  • Responsible for developing cost estimates under project management supervision
  • Identify and quantify energy conservation measures
  • Perform data entry, equipment identification/research, and utility analysis
  • Perform energy benchmarking and review analysis performed by others for all project scope of work
  • Perform site inspections, equipment inventories, measurements, and data collection using digital camera, digital tablets, and/or handwritten notes
  • Develop custom ad-hoc calculations and analyses based on client inquiries and ECMs
  • Analyze utility bill data to determine customer energy performance parameters
  • Write ECM descriptions and supporting documents to be included in report submissions.
  • Manage project resources and expense budgets
  • Quality assurance reviews of internal work and client-facing work product.
  • Understand all aspects of the Company Employee Handbook and pertinent Company systems and processes
  • Other tasks as assigned


Your background includes:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Technical, or related field required
  • 10+ years of industry experience with 5+ years working with public agency clients
  • Proficient in conducting Building Controls, HVAC, Lighting, Renewable Power, and other Electrical Systems surveys and energy analysis
  • Proficient in measurement and verification protocols & procedures
  • Knowledgeable of HVAC systems including but not limited to chillers, boilers, air handlers, variable speed drives, and motors
  • Knowledgeable of Energy Management Systems and control strategies development.
  • Fluent with local building and energy codes
  • California Division of the School Architect (DSA) design and permitting experience
  • Certified Energy Manager, LEED AP, or other industry certification
