Compensation

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $205,843 - $272,739.06. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C's annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

Are you passionate about Technology Breakthrough and Innovation? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Technology Breakthrough and Innovation team. As Director-Power Automation Technologies, you'll be crucial in ensuring continued innovation and supporting our diverse team.

The Technology & Breakthrough Innovation (T&BI) team drives the creation of new product solutions for S&C's customers by exploiting new technologies and enabling breakthrough product development for the fast-evolving, intelligent power grid.

The Director of Power Automation Technologies (PAT) leads the technology organization responsible for basic and applied research in the fields of electronics (including power electronics), communication, software and power systems (including protection and control). The PAT groups work on advancing technological concepts and components that feature in S&C's existing and future offerings. The Technology organization also supports other organizations in S&C with technology knowledge and has the mission to maintain and grow S&C's knowledge related to technologies needed for S&C to bring innovations to the market. The Director of PAT will work alongside the Director of Power Hardware Technologies, Vice President of TBI and Innovation Director and report to the Chief Technology Officer. In addition, this Director will be working with the Product Development and Product Management teams on exploring new concepts and components, readying them by advancing their Technology Readiness Levels and transferring of technologies for further productization.

The responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Define and execute the vision and roadmap for next-next generation Power Automation Technologies aligned with S&C's strategy.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and evaluate their potential application for S&C.
  • Lead the technology teams and collaborate with other engineering teams to conceptualize, design, and proof future automation solutions S&C can offer in the market.
  • Scale the PAT team in alignment with company growth and business needs.
  • Anticipate and mitigate risks associated with automation deployment and supporting operational technology risk assessments.
  • Maintain relationships with leaders across the organization to ensure seamless coordination, planning and alignment of shared priorities and work.
  • Champion efforts to maintain zero lost time injury standard through effective communication and training of team members.
  • Establish, monitor and hold team members accountable to clear responsibilities and accountabilities, providing ongoing performance feedback, both positive and developmental and addressing performance gaps promptly.
  • Foster a culture that supports the growth and development of team members by using appropriate coaching and mentoring techniques, training and participation in development opportunities aligned to their role and development plan.
  • Build a sense of ownership and shared responsibility within the team, encourage employee feedback and involvement in team decisions and address/mediate conflicts to restore harmony.
  • Empower and motivate team members by fostering an inclusive and healthy work environment and positive team morale, recognizing and rewarding achievements and celebrating successes.
  • Manage administrative processes including but not limited to team/project budgets, recruitment, induction, leave management, performance reviews, performance improvement plans, succession planning.
  • Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules.

To be eligible for this position you must at least meet these requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 15+ years of experience in the electrical power systems industry.
  • Proven progressive experience in technology and automation project management and execution.
  • Excellent leadership skills with a track record of successfully developing team members, along with an ability to lead, guide, motivate, and delegate to deliver results, build teams and capabilities, embrace change, drive decisions and results, embrace culture and inclusion, and exhibit a high level of integrity and ethical standards.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills, coordinating internal and external resources, creative problem-solving when obstacles arise, and juggling a heavy volume of diverse projects.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to establish meaningful relationships built on mutual trust and respect, navigate and resolve conflict, moderate behaviors, and foster collaborative working relationships amongst a diverse audience.
  • Excellent business acumen and analytical skills with the ability to use and analyze data to drive informed decisions, problem-solve complex issues, and leverage data and learning to drive continuous improvement.
  • Sound financial acumen and numerical ability to manage budgetary resources to maximum effectiveness.
  • Skilled at navigating through ambiguity and leading teams and organizations through change.
  • Proven success partnering across teams, creating effective partnerships at all levels, and collaborating at an operational level.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), project management tools, process mapping programs, data visualization tools, and more.
