Job Summary
The Export Compliance Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing US export compliance policies and procedures under the direction of the Director of Global Trade Compliance. This role serves as a first-line manager, providing leadership and oversight to export compliance specialists while ensuring adherence to U.S. and international export laws and regulations. The Export Compliance Manager evaluates processes, identifies areas of risk, and collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders to implement corrective actions and strengthen internal controls. This position monitors global regulatory developments, assesses business impact, and advises leadership on risks, mitigation strategies, and required actions to maintain compliance and operational continuity.
Essential Functions
- Provide day-to-day leadership, oversight, and performance management of Export Compliance Specialists, ensuring workload prioritization, professional development, and alignment with organizational objectives.
- Partner collaboratively with cross-functional departments (Legal, Supply Chain, Engineering, Sales, Finance, IT, and Operations) to complete Customs and Trade initiatives and deliver required export compliance training.
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of export controls and processes, including system integration and governance within Global Trade Management (GTM) platforms.
- Oversee and ensure the effectiveness of Denied Party Screening processes, including escalation, documentation, and resolution of potential matches.
- Manage the classification of goods, software, and technology for export purposes, including ECCN determinations, Schedule B classifications, and export license determinations and filings when required.
- Review and ensure maintenance of export records
- Support Country of Origin determinations for exports, and U.S. government contracts, ensuring alignment with U.S. rules of origin and applicable international frameworks.
- Manage Free Trade Agreement applicability and export-related certifications where required.
- Monitor domestic and international government activity for emerging or changing laws and regulations (e.g., EAR, OFAC sanctions, ITAR, anti-boycott, trade remedies) that may impact company products, technology, or business operations.
- Develop and maintain export compliance SOPs, internal controls, audit protocols, and corrective action plans to ensure sustainable compliance infrastructure.
Required/Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree preferred (Business, Supply Chain, International Trade, Legal Studies, or related field), not required.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in Customs and Trade Compliance, with at least 2-3 years of export-focused experience.
- Prior team management experience strongly preferred.
- GTM system experience required; Oracle Cloud GTM experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., medical devices, technology, manufacturing) preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with proven ability to prioritize initiatives and lead a team in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel (data analysis, pivot tables, compliance tracking).
- Demonstrated proficiency in working with Global Trade Management (GTM) systems; experience with Oracle Cloud GTM strongly preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex regulatory concepts clearly to senior leadership and broad internal audiences.
- Proven ability to identify problems of varying complexity, analyze regulatory and operational information, and develop, evaluate, and implement effective solutions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in classification, licensing, and documentation.
- Working knowledge of U.S. HTS codes, General Notes, and Rules of Interpretation, with strong understanding of export classification methodologies (ECCN, EAR99, license exceptions).
- Strong knowledge of U.S. export regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), OFAC sanctions programs, and familiarity with ITAR concepts.
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate cross-functional compliance projects independently and through delegation to team members.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, including coaching, mentoring, and performance management of direct reports.

This position is eligible for an annual bonus in accordance with the company's bonus plan. Factors which may affect starting salary include geography, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
