Essential Job Duties

As a Crew Leader, you'll play a key role in maintaining and enhancing our campus environment by leading essential projects such as power washing building entrances, window washing, floor waxing, and other specialized cleaning services that keep our spaces clean, safe, and welcoming.

In this role, you'll lead and support a dedicated team, coordinate daily work activities, respond to maintenance needs, and ensure high-quality service delivery across campus. You'll also serve as a point of contact for customer service, helping to create positive experiences for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Working Hours: Saturday - Wednesday 8:30 am-5:30 pm
Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:


  • Lead and coordinate campus projects such as power washing, window washing, floor waxing, and re-lamping of fixtures and dispensers to ensure high-quality results.
  • Inspect facilities to identify maintenance discrepancies and coordinate timely resolution of issues.

  • Collect, review, and submit employee timesheets accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Complete and submit accident and incident reports within 24 hours, following established procedures.
  • Assist with equipment tracking and maintain a monthly inventory of storage closet supplies.
  • Prepare and submit supply requests for manager approval to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Train and onboard new employees, ensuring understanding of job tasks, safety protocols, and operational standards.
  • Transport employees to various campus locations to support daily assignments and project needs.
  • Collaborate with maintenance staff and partners within and outside the unit to resolve issues efficiently and effectively.

  • Respond to and resolve customer requests through radio communications, work orders, and in-person interactions while providing excellent customer service.
  • Use standard housekeeping equipment such as auto-scrubbers, burnishers, and power washers in addition to performing minor repairs on these and other small equipment.
  • Perform lifting duties up to 60 pounds frequently and 90 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Perform physical tasks such as grasping, pushing, and pulling cleaning equipment; reaching overhead; bending, squatting, climbing, and maintaining balance; and communicate effectively with supervisors and the public.

Other Responsibilities

  • This position has been designated as essential personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule
  • This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor
  • Provide support to other zones as needed, filling in for vacant positions or absenteeism

Qualifications




Minimum Experience/Education
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Special certification may be required for some of these positions.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Communicate effectively with supervisor and the general public.
  • Follow instructions and other communications regarding assignments and other matters.
  • Experience performing housekeeping duties in a university or commercial environment.
  • Experience in MarketPlace (Supply Ordering/Req. Mgmt.), inventory management & control, budgeting, Wolf Report, timesheet management, SOP development, data security, phone etiquette, and intermediate proficiency in MS Excel/Google Sheets, MS Word/Google Docs, and MS PowerPoint/Google Slides

Required License or Certification

  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire and it must be maintained.
