POSITION DESCRIPTION
PART-TIME FACILITIES ASSISTANT
POSITION OBJECTIVES: To support and assist on a part-time basis the maintenance efforts that allow for
optimum results in efficiency, reliability, and prompt maintenance and cleaning of the buildings an
grounds in a manner which will present a favorable image of the Cooperative; and to consistently work
and communicate in a team environment in accordance with the Cooperative's mission, vision, and
values.
MINIMUM JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
All requirements are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate individuals with
disabilities.
EDUCATION: Require high school diploma or equivalent. Minimum educational requirements include
ability to perform elementary arithmetic, read and understand instructions, and complete routine
reports. Prefer specialized training in custodial functions.
EXPERIENCE: Require a minimum of one (1) year experience in the areas of building maintenance and
repairs of a general nature such as painting, replacing lamps and fixtures, pruning shrubbery and trees,
and care of plants and flowers, as well as janitorial services including cleaning, waxing, and polishing
floors, windows, and other office areas.
KNOWLEDGE: Require a working knowledge of the principles related to custodial duties and
responsibilities of a general nature. Require an understanding of safety hazards such as fire, electrical
shock, broken windows, improper storage of equipment and flammables, slippery floors, and be able to
correct and report on such conditions. Require an understanding of or ability to learn and perform
grounds maintenance including the care of shrubbery and lawns.

SKILLS: Require excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work in a
team environment. Require the ability to understand and perform the following: wet and dry mopping,
lavatory cleaning, floor cleaning and maintenance; glass and tile cleaning, light fixture cleaning and bulb
replacement; carpet care; control of insects and rodents; cleaning of building exterior to include
sidewalks, windows, buildings; de-icing of exterior walkways and entrances; care and use of power
driven tools and equipment such as lawn mowers, and floor scrubbing machines.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS AND CONDITIONS:
Reports to: District Manager; District Coordinator, Engineering & Operations and/or District Director
Office Services

Directs: None
Internal: Actively participates within the Cooperative team environment to develop supportive
relationships essential to the success of the functions of this position, achieving the results expected and
encouraging throughout the organization the concepts of teamwork and cooperative spirit.
External: Develops and maintains supportive relationships with member/consumers, the general public,
and other external contacts to assure positive results.
This position is medium work; requires repetitive motions, hearing, talking, feeling, grasping, lifting,
pulling, pushing, walking, standing, reaching, crawling, crouching, kneeling, stooping, balancing, and
climbing; requires visual acuity in Mobile Equipment Operations; and is subject to both inside and
outside environmental conditions in extreme heat or cold with noise, vibrations, and/or hazards.
The following are the essential duties of this position and do not include marginal functions that are
incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties. The scope and duties of a given position may
change or be temporarily altered based on the needs of Jackson Electric Membership Corporation. This
document does not create an employment contract, implied or otherwise, other than an "at will"
employment document.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide for maintenance of building and grounds at offices. Clean and wash all office windows

and exterior walls.
Clean, wax, and polish floors and furniture.
3. Remove trash, sweep office, and polish furniture.
4. Clean bathroom floors and fixtures. Vacuum all carpets.
5.Clean and maintain break room and kitchen areas.
6. Perform work in connection with minor repairs including maintenance, carpenter activities forfacilities and such painting as may be required.
7. Submit requisitions for approval to designated Supervisor for essential supplies and equipment
used to accomplish these duties.
8. Perform work necessary in connection with care and upkeep of equipment and tools used incustodial work.
9. Replace bulbs and ensure that lights in all spaces are operating properly.
10. Clean and maintain all sidewalks and parking areas.
11. As needed, assist staff in setting up meeting rooms and breaking back down.
12. Load and unload material being transferred in or out of the Cooperative storage areas, as
assigned or directed.
13. Clean all truck storage and warehousing space as needed.
14. Collect, remove, and dispose of all trash from building and warehouse.
15. Keep all inside and outside storage areas used for supplies and equipment neat and orderly at
all times.
16. Submit time sheets in a timely manner, indicating time spent on specific duties.
17. Be responsible for reasonable safeguarding of buildings after office hours.
18. Receive communications and directives and orally confirm full understanding and keep
supervisor informed of important information concerning work performed.

9. Be familiar with and at all times follow the best safety practices set forth in the Cooperative's
Safety Manual.
20. Keep informed of all Cooperative policies and procedures.
21. Perform such other duties as may be required or directed.
