The role of a Quality Manager is to ensure that the Stamping Parts meet the quality requirements on all facets of the New Programs from early tooling Engineering discussions to launch at the Stamping plants. The Manager will supervise, coordinate and organize activities and ensure that the quality requirements align with the program quality objectives.

Responsibilities include coordinating the Dimensional and Surface Quality activities of the new stamping parts and tools in accordance with the datum and PLP strategy, GD&T, simulations, surface criteria, part buyoffs and launch buyoffs. The manager will ensure that the Dimensional and panel surface meet all the program quality requirements. Provide leadership and direction to SPE functional areas and various cross functional organizations including Stamping, Bodyshop, Assembly Plants and outside suppliers.

  • Work with the SPE Forming team and the Selected Die Sources to ensure that the GD&T is in coordination with the stamping gravity simulations for new parts. Ensure that the initial stamping morphs and the stamping simulations can deliver first time dimensional quality.
  • Review and Buyoff gage designs, and completed gages, to ensure they support die tryout and part measurement needs of SPE
  • Review and Buyoff forming simulations and finish panels, to ensure they support the surface quality standards.
  • Analyze part data at each tryout quality loop and provide feedback to SPE and die supplier for areas needing correction as well as areas ok as is.
  • Coordinate part dimensional quality reviews or Sample Part Inspection Report (SPIR) with all stakeholders - Dimensional Validation, Assy and Stamping plants, Engineering, Stamping Process Engineer and Program Manager
  • This activity needs to be coordinated on the die set buyoff of each program build including start of production and final launch.
  • Determine useability of the parts
  • Identify areas to be improved - with "hard points" identified (must correct)
  • Coordinate and agree on functional build (blue) points where tolerances can be revised to leave as is (derogation)
  • Document meeting decisions, blue points, hard points and description of fixes to be made
  • Coordinate, lead and resolve vehicle build issues with Dimensional Validation and Assembly plant teams. Communicate stamping changes required to SPE
  • Support Assembly and Stamping plant build reviews during all phases of the programs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering)
  • Five (5) or more years of experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience managing GD&T and Customer Specifications
  • Experience managing Class A Surface and Customer Specifications
  • Proven experience with Inspection Tools
  • Experience working and leading Quality projects internally and with outside suppliers

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CAD Software (CATIA, Unigraphics, etc)
  • 3D Dimensional software (Atos, GInspect, etc)
  • CAE Tools (FEA)
  • SPC
  • CMM
  • Lean Six Sigma
  • Kaizen
  • APQP
  • DFMEA

The candidate will need to possess a strong foundation in automotive engineering with a focus on manufacturing and quality assurance. They will need to have some expertise in various methodologies like Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen Development, and APQP to drive continuous improvement and ensure product quality. Their technical skills should include a familiarity with Stamping Parts CAD software (CATIA, Unigraphics/NX), CAE tools (FEA), and quality control techniques (SPC, CMM, Atos, GInspect). The candidate should also have experience in project management and team leadership.
