Summary

Sr. Director, Shopper Consumer Insights

As the Sr. Director, Shopper Consumer Insights, you will lead the strategic, commercial, and operational direction of the SMART consulting and insights business, with a strong emphasis on revenue ownership, client leadership, and business growth. This role is intentionally evolving beyond traditional insights execution to serve as a growth oriented, externally facing leadership position, acting as a strategic partner to key retail clients.

This is a high urgency replacement role with a strong preference for transition overlap, requiring an experienced leader who can step in quickly and drive immediate impact.

Responsibilities Relationship & Client Leadership (Critical)
  • Serve as a trusted, consultative partner to retail and CPG client leadership
  • Establish strong, value-added relationships at Albertsons headquarters
  • Identify new business opportunities through day to day client interactions
  • Operate as a strategic advisor, not simply a service provider
Strategic Growth & Business Expansion
  • Shift the organization from passive renewals to value driven growth conversations
  • Identify and execute opportunities to:
    • Expand Albertsons based work
    • Build scalable retailer models (e.g., Meijer, Giant Eagle)
  • Demonstrate a consistent track record of:
    • Business expansion
    • Category growth
    • New service or engagement development
Operational Leadership
  • Own a holistic view of SMART consulting revenue, including:
    • Active contracts
    • Renewal timelines
    • Revenue mix (hourly, project, retainer)
  • Implement a proactive renewal strategy by:
    • Engaging clients ~90 days prior to renewal
    • Demonstrating value delivered
    • Identifying opportunities to expand scope, margin, and strategic impact
  • Continuously assess:
    • Capacity vs. demand
    • Staffing needs and bench strategy
    • Balance of contributory (non billable) vs. revenue generating work

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Deep category management expertise
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Syndicated data
    • Shopper loyalty data
    • Shopper, category, and market insights
  • Proven ability to:
    • Grow and expand business
    • Translate insights into commercial opportunity
  • Strategic, entrepreneurial mindset
  • Strong CPG and retail experience
  • Demonstrated success leading teams and influencing senior stakeholders
Preferred / Complementary Experience
  • Experience working with brands selling into major retailers
  • Comfort balancing research rigor, insights storytelling, and commercial outcomes
  • Previous professional experience with Albertsons, either in a sales, merchandising or consultative role
Leadership Scope & Team Structure
  • Oversees a total team of approximately 15-20 associates (not all direct reports)
  • Organizational structure includes:
    • One Sr. Director (this role)
    • Two Directors reporting into this role
    • Directors each manage teams with varying spans of control
  • Boise office includes:
    • On site sales team
    • Approximately six SMART team members
  • Majority of the broader team operates in a hybrid or remote model
  • In office expectations may evolve over time

Responsibilities

  • Client and stakeholder engagement: Leads strategic discussions with clients, customers, and data providers Develops enterprise-wide solutions and ensures alignment with shopper-centric initiatives
  • Presentation development and delivery: Creates and delivers high-impact presentations integrating multiple data sources Serves as subject matter expert in client meetings and internal strategy sessions
  • Associate development: Mentors and guides direct reports Facilitates best practice sharing and fosters a culture of continuous learning and development
  • Data analytics leadership: Oversees integration of scan, point-of-sale, panel, and geodemographic data Ensures insights are actionable and aligned with client objectives

Qualifications

  • Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree
  • Experience Requirements: 8-10 years experience in relevant field
  • Travel requirement: 35% travel expected

Supervisor Responsibility

  • Direct Reports: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities for direct reports
  • Indirect Reports: Does not have direct reports, but may delegate work of others and provide guidance, direction and mentoring to indirect reports

Environmental & Physical Requirements
Office / Sedentary Requirements: Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Typically, requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time (66%+ each day), ability to hear telephone, ability to enter data on a computer and may require the ability to lift up to 10lbs.

Field Requirements: Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed in a retail in-store environment, which may include working in variable temperatures such as refrigerated areas, freezer sections and deli/bakery areas. The position typically requires the ability to spend 66%+ hours each workday performing the following activities: Engage in considerable physical activity, ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds, stand on feet for long periods of time, use consumer goods products, prepare, and serve food and beverages safely as appropriate for the product demonstration.
