Overview

Illinois CancerCare is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) of Benign Hematology to join our dedicated team. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in Benign Hematology provides expert patient assessment, clinical evaluation, diagnostic interpretation, education, and supportive care under physician guidance. This role collaborates closely with the care team, works across multiple clinic sites, responds to urgent clinical needs, and supports ongoing patient care and administrative tasks. Flexibility, strong communication skills, and adaptability to varied patient populations are essential.

As an Advanced Practice Provider at Illinois CancerCare, you'll be part of a collaborative, mission-driven team providing comprehensive, patient-centered cancer care. You'll work both independently and alongside physicians to assess, diagnose, and manage oncology patients across outpatient and satellite clinic settings. From developing treatment plans to managing side effects and educating patients and families, you'll be a trusted partner in every step of the cancer journey.

Pay & Benefits

  • Hiring Pay Range: $110,000 to $150,000.

Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Provide comprehensive benign hematology care to patients in the out-patient setting. This includes assessments, treatment plan development specific to benign hematology diagnosis, prompt management of infusion reactions, follow up.
  • Provide comprehensive benign hematology care to patients at satellite clinics. Ability to make independent advanced practice provider judgments, collaborating with a physician in the Peoria office or satellite, as indicated.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of disease-specific protocols and, with confidence, instructs patients and families on treatment course.
  • Demonstrates skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional advanced practice provider management to provide ongoing patient care.
  • Appropriately consults with physician on patient issues or questions.
  • Demonstrates skill in taking medical history to assess medical condition and interpret findings in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates skill in preparing and maintaining patient records (electronic), including dictation and responding to correspondence.
  • Demonstrates skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, families, medical staff, and the public.
  • Acts as a major continuity component for delivery and understanding of health care as part of a designated team.
  • Makes independent advanced practice provider judgments, collaborating with physician in managing acute and long term needs of patients as appropriate.
  • Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Orders and reviews appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  • Manages medical emergencies within scope of training and experience.
  • Understands the legal consequences of actions.
  • Responsible for and is a resource for safe, competent patient care.
  • Perform related duties as required, including performing bone marrow biopsies.
  • Instructs patient and family regarding medication and treatment instructions, and prescribes medications as per state licensing guidelines.
  • Provides and maintains patient confidentiality.

Education & Leadership

  • Plans and participates in educational programs for patients, families, and staff.
  • Develops and evaluates relevant patient education tools as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with Lead Advanced Practice Provider in planning, implementing, and evaluating educational activities within the organization.
  • Actively participates with the Provider Education leadership to identify staff gaps in knowledge, skills or practices for the organization.
  • Assist in developing and identifying quality outcome measures and strategic goals for continuing education to improve APP and nursing development and patient outcomes.

Consultant

  • Evaluates and develops when indicated, methods for enhancing patient relations.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in projects as requested.

Professional Contributions

  • Demonstrates ongoing professional growth through participation in relevant educational endeavors and appropriate associations.
  • Direct strategic planning of Advanced Practice Provider Program to promote continued growth and value to the practice.
  • Advocate for the APPs individually and as a group.
  • Provide input and feedback from the APP group to physicians and administration.
  • Support and complement the overall mission and strategic plan of Illinois Cancer Care.

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner (NP):

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing program.
  • Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current RN licensure and registration with the State Board of Nursing in Illinois.
  • Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification required.
  • 3-5 years of post-MSN experience preferred, ideally in oncology or a related specialty.

Physician Assistant (PA):

  • Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Current state license as a Physician Assistant in Illinois.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification required.
  • 1-3 years of clinical experience preferred, ideally in oncology or a related specialty.

Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS):

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing program.
  • Successful completion of a Clinical Nurse Specialist program.
  • Current RN licensure and registration with the State Board of Nursing in Illinois.
  • Current state licensure as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification required.
  • 1-3 years of post-MSN experience preferred, ideally in oncology or a related specialty.
