Georgia-Pacific's Consumer Products Division is seeking a qualified Project Engineer to support the Port Hudson Paper Mill located in Zachary, LA. The Project Engineer will plan, coordinate, and deliver capital and improvement projects across a high-speed tissue and consumer paper manufacturing facility. This role combines technical engineering expertise, project management, and cross-functional leadership to ensure projects are executed safely, on schedule, and within budget while supporting operational reliability, product quality, and continuous improvement.

What You Will Do

  • Lead project delivery from concept through closeout by creating and maintaining project scope, detailed schedules, resource planning, cost estimates, and risk registers; drive decision-making to meet schedule and budget goals.
  • Develop engineering designs and specifications (mechanical, electrical, controls) and coordinate detailed drawings, P&IDs, and vendor documents to ensure fit-for-purpose solutions for tissue converting, rewinding, slitting, embossing, and packaging equipment.
  • Manage procurement and contractor activities: prepare bid packages, evaluate vendor proposals, support purchase order scopes, and oversee contractor work to ensure compliance with specifications, schedule, and safety requirements.
  • Serve as primary liaison between operations, maintenance, safety, environmental, quality, and finance to align project objectives with plant priorities and operational readiness.
  • Oversee project construction, installation, and machine changeovers, including field engineering support, punch-list management, and coordination of mill outages and planned shutdowns to minimize production impact.
  • Lead commissioning and startup activities: develop startup plans, perform pre-start checks, validate performance against design intent, troubleshoot start-up issues, and hand over reliable systems to operations with training and documentation.
  • Control project finances: monitor and forecast budgets, track variances, implement cost control measures, and present regular financial and schedule status to stakeholders.
  • Enforce safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance across projects: ensure work permits, lockout/tagout, hazard analyses, and contractor safety systems are in place and followed.
  • Drive continuous improvement and reliability: apply root-cause analysis, lessons learned, and best-practice engineering to reduce downtime, improve product quality, and optimize process efficiency.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Project engineering experience in paper manufacturing, converting, heavy industrial, chemical manufacturing, or refinery environment.
  • Experience working with engineering and project management documentation platforms (AutoCAD, P&IDs, MS Projects, Build, Primavera etc).
  • CMMS (Computerized Mechanical Maintenance Systems) experience.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • PMP or equivalent certification.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement certification and applied experience.
  • Pulp & Paper experience.
  • Electrical and/or Instrumentation experience.
