As a Human Factors Manager, you will play a critical leadership role in shaping user centered design across life changing medical device programs. This is an opportunity to influence innovation at scale, lead and develop a talented team, and ensure our products deliver safe, intuitive and meaningful experiences for patients and healthcare professionals worldwide. Based in Andover, MA, you will work at the intersection of design, engineering and regulatory excellence.

What will you be doing?

  • Leading and developing a team responsible for usability and human factors activities across multiple medical device programs

  • Championing user centered design principles and design thinking to drive innovation while meeting regulatory requirements

  • Applying human factors engineering throughout the product development lifecycle to improve safety, usability and outcomes

  • Partnering cross functionally to align human factors strategy with business goals and product roadmaps

  • Serving as a usability authority by establishing, maintaining and evolving human factors processes and operating procedures

  • Ensuring compliance with relevant global standards and regulations, with particular focus on IEC 62366 1 and FDA human factors guidance

  • Engaging and managing external human factors and design partners as needed

  • Contributing to continuous improvement of technical, operational and organizational performance

  • Traveling up to 25 percent to support programs and collaboration

What will you need to be successful?

  • A minimum of a BSc in a relevant discipline such as Human Factors, Industrial Design, Cognitive Psychology or Engineering

  • Extensive experience applying human factors engineering in medical device product development, including leadership or people management experience

  • Strong working knowledge of usability and human factors standards and regulatory expectations in a medical device environment

  • Proven ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders and communicate effectively across functions

  • Experience with medical devices, capital equipment or software based user interfaces

The anticipated base compensation range for this position is $145,250 - $217,750 USD annually.
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role at Smith + Nephew. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
