We are looking for a Competitive Intelligence Lead join our Integrated Insights, Competitive Intelligence team based out of one of our following hub locations: Brussels, BE - Slough, UK - Atlanta, GA USA
About the role
The Competitive Intelligence Lead will cover the full range of competitive intelligence methodologies, skills and processes, combining CI expertise, with a scientific outlook. This role manages global competitive intelligence initiatives across the portfolio, from early assets to marketed products in our developed brands portfolio, with a main focus on our Neurology portfolio.

The Competitive Intelligence Lead is one of enquiry, innovation and being a thought partner for the competitive environments of the future for our asset teams. This role works closely with other team members and internal stakeholders alike, adding to the continual growth and improvement of our holistic future competitive understanding.
What you'll do
- Effectively manages resources to provide management and other business stakeholders with actionable information and insight regarding competitive intelligence across the portfolio as identified and assigned. This includes on-going deliverables as well as leveraging deep dive methodologies such as war-gaming, scenario planning, conference intelligence gathering, and others.
- Ensure consistency with internal Competitive Intelligence colleagues related to use of methodology, systems and tools.
- Works closely with Insight Integrators, New Product Planning Leads, Future's Lead and Head Competitive Intelligence to ensure needs, methodologies, outputs and actions/recommendations are consistent, informative, and future focused across the areas where working.
- Utilize well known and innovative solutions from complex problems, provides actionable recommendations, and facilitates delivery and execution of workshops and competitive intelligence programs.
- Use scientific and commercial experience to deliver deep and meaningful, actionable insights including in areas where there is some ambiguity.
- Monitors the external environment to gain a deeper understanding in competitive intelligence and research techniques and bring those forward within the organization.
- Provides holistic insight-driven consultation to all levels of internal stakeholders for the assets in scope for the competitive intelligence.
- Executes primary and secondary competitive insights research to clarify issues and reduce risk in decision making for marketed, new, and molecules in development.
- Develops with the asset teams and Insight Integrators insights that incorporate an understanding of primary & secondary competitive intelligence, trend watching, and environmental understanding.
- Oversees the delivery of objective, independent, and value driven insights gained from both primary and secondary competitive research designed to enable fact-based decision making.
- Seeks out, assesses, and recommends innovative insights methodologies, information sources, and vendors.
- Assess need and utility of semi-automated, automated algorithms to benefit UCB
- Accountability for the knowledge management of CI reporting
Interested? For this role we're looking for the following education, experience and skills
Required:
- Bachelors Degree
- 2+ years of Competitive Intelligence or related experience in pharmaceuticals or consumer products
- Some overnight travel, including internationally, required
Preferred:
- Masters Degree or PhD highly preferred
- Understanding of competitive intelligence techniques and methodologies, combined with a scientific background which can be brought to bear on the issues facing asset teams, both early, pre-launch and launched
- Technical Excellence - Maintains extensive knowledge of the relevant therapy areas, the competitive environment within each area, patient journeys, patient experience and unmet needs, clinical practice, patient access & reimbursement, understanding of how to leverage technology and digital to support UCB brands and strategies, Competitive Intelligence methodologies including congress intelligence, landscaping, dynamic SWOT, PESTEL, Five Forces and Four Corner analysis, primary intelligence project, secondary data analysis, war gaming etc. are included in the Competitive Insights Technical Excellence Competency.
- Maintains knowledge of current vendors, potential partners, and methods to complete competitive intelligence projects and advise stakeholders.
This positions reasonably anticipated base salary range is $148,000 - $195,000. The actual salary offered will take into account related knowledge, skills, experience and location among other factors and may fall outside the expected range.
