Metrology Tech III

Job Summary


Under the direction of the Metrology Lead, Metrology Tech III is responsible for conducting various inspections, dimensional measurements, and performance tests to support product development, manufacturing, quality assurance, and compliance. The Metrology Tech III will work in a lab environment utilizing equipment including but not limited to- CMM's, CT machines, vision systems, laser scanners, tensile testers, water baths, ovens, scales, force gauges, calipers, gage pins, height gages, and moisture testers. The Metrology Tech III will be responsible for documenting and communicating results as well as supporting the management of test samples. This will be achieved while maintaining HellermannTyton's Quality and EHS certifications by supporting all corporate policies, procedures, work instructions and required documentation.


Essential Functions:



  • Read and interpret advanced drawings.
  • Perform visual inspections, dimensional measurements, and performance tests while following standards and procedures.
  • Program and operate CMM's, CT, Laser Scanners, Micro-Vu and Keyence vision systems
  • Create custom fixtures for various measurement systems to accurately measure parts
  • Program and order 3d Printed Fixtures from Additive manufacturing department using available software's
  • Conduct inspections, measurements, and mechanical tests using tensile testers, water baths, ovens, scales, force gauges, calipers, gage pins, height gages, vision systems, and moisture analyzers.
  • Offer suggestions or ideas for product test set up
  • Help mentor Metrology Tech I's and II's.
  • Cut and cross section parts as needed for CT scanning.
  • Photograph product, test set ups, failure modes, etc.
  • Identify failure modes and potential root causes.
  • Record results, defects, deviations, etc. in detailed reports or control software.
  • Navigate and utilize software such as JDE, SQC Pack, and EQMS.
  • Communicate effectively and in a professional manner- both verbally and in writing.
  • Prepare Report pages for Calypso and Gom/Zeiss inspection software's
  • Organize, prioritize, and multi-task daily activities to support project priorities.
  • Manage test samples.
  • Keep a clean and organized work environment.


Other Functions:



  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of relevant department standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Contribute to the company and department goals and objectives.
  • Support work instruction development for inspection and testing.
  • Identify innovative approaches to working more effectively and efficiently.
  • Assist in training as needed.
  • Actively participate in learning and self-improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Success in this role will require



  • Perform visual inspections, dimensional measurements, and functional/mechanical testing.
  • Properly operate and understand all functions of test and inspection equipment/gages.
  • Vision/optical comparator systems experience required
  • CMM experience required.
  • Vision (Keyence/Inspec) system experience required
  • CT (Zeiss Inspect/Gom) experience preferred
  • Handheld laser Scanner (Hawk 2) Experience preferred
  • Inspection software Programming (Zeiss Inspect, Gom Inspect) experience preferred
  • Ability to read advanced part drawings and interpret design, performance, and customer specifications or requirements.
  • Accurately inspect and measure products using appropriate tools.
  • Ability to identify failure modes and potential root causes.
  • Consistently deliver accurate, complete, and on-time reports and records of results.
  • Demonstrate understanding and proper execution of inspection and test standards, procedures, best practices, etc.
  • Demonstrate understanding and proper use of software such as JDE, SQC Pack, and EQMS.
  • Basic knowledge of APQP documents, Statistical Process Control, and PPAP's
  • Work efficiently and respond constructively when faced with challenges.
  • Communicate in a professional manner.

What You'll Bring



  • Minimum Associate's degree or five (5) years of equivalent experience in Metrology.
  • Experience using Zeiss Inspect and/or Calypso preferred
  • Experience using test and measurement equipment.
  • Experience with Injection Molds preferred
  • Technical/print reading skills. Knowledge of GD&T is preferred.
  • Advanced print reading skills.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Software skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Motivated with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Detail orientated and organized.
  • Professional and service orientated.
  • Ability to work independently and in a group environment.
  • Pass Ishihara Color Vision Test or advise if color deficient
  • This job frequently requires the employee to sit, stand, crouch, bend over to lift, and walk for periods of time. This job also requires the employee to hear, talk, have good vision, and good manual dexterity.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50lbs.
  • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment is required.
  • Ability to work overtime on weekdays to meet the needs of the department and customers.
