What to Expect
Gigafactory Texas is seeking a skilled Manufacturing Engineer to support Cell Manufacturing, with a focus on Cell Assembly. This role is critical to driving the development, optimization, and scalability of automated processes that transform battery cell designs into high-quality, production-ready components. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise in equipment and process engineering with a passion for innovation, ensuring seamless integration of automation, precision, and efficiency in battery cell production.
What You'll Do
- Lead the deployment, validation, and continuous optimization of automated battery cell assembly equipment (e.g., filling, welding, dispensing, inspection, cleaning, handling)
- Drive equipment performance improvement through root-cause analysis (5 Whys, 8D, DMAIC)
- Partner with Process, Maintenance, and Automation teams to ramp new cell designs and materials to full production with high yield and low downtime
- PLC/HMI logic tuning, robotics performance, and mechanical/electrical system reliability
- Apply GD&T, experimental design (DOE), and statistical process control (SPC) to validate process stability and reduce variation
- Optimize conveyance, robotic handling, vision inspection, and automated welding systems for speed, precision, and repeatability
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in high-volume, automated manufacturing environments, preferably in EV battery or with high-speed precision manufacturing systems
- Proven track record in equipment launch, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and OEE improvement on complex, integrated production lines
- Strong technical background in mechanical, electrical, or mechatronics engineering (BS degree required; advanced degree a plus)
- Deep hands-on experience with industrial control systems (Siemens PLCs, Beckhoff TwinCAT), industrial robotics (Fanuc/ABB), and integrated automation systems including vision inspection (2D/3D), electrical interconnection, and automated material handling
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex, multi-system equipment failures under fast-paced production demands
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset, you thrive in cross-functional teams
