| Summary |
- The Director of the Emergency Medical Services program is also the program administrator. The director is responsible for providing leadership for the educational program and implementing the program in accordance with the Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) regulations. Learning outcomes are maintained at a level to meet approval standards of the MIEMSS, Howard Community College and as articulated within the Department of Transportation National Standard Curricula for emergency medical services personnel. Standards and criteria for accreditation through the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Profession (CoAEMSP) are maintained and reviewed on a regular basis to ensure compliance. A reduced teaching load is maintained consistent with a 12-month faculty director position.

| Essential Role Responsibilities |
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
- Provide leadership in curricular design and development
- Review curriculum materials and instructional processes for consistency and quality
- Establish unit goals and generate plans of action to affect curriculum
- Participate in the revision of core work to reflect the mission, goals and objectives of the college (including the vision, values and strategic initiatives)
- Formulate and implement policies pertinent to the program including:
- Admission and progression
- Advanced standing
- Transfer and articulation
- Withdrawal
- Reinstatement
- Evaluation
- Graduation requirements
- Assure that all publications pertaining to the emergency medical services program are clear, accurate, and current
- Participate in the preparation and administration of the budget
- Order equipment and instructional supplies
PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION
- Conduct regular meetings with the medical director and cooperating agencies keeping minutes showing activities, recommendations and decisions
- Attend emergency medical service meetings concerned with education and practice at regional, state, and national levels
- Submit required reports to MIEMSS and CoAEMSP and other reports and surveys as required
- Prepare and confirm list of candidates eligible to sit for licensing examinations
CLINICAL LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES
- Review written agreements with cooperating agencies
- Coordinate clinical activities along with the clinical coordinator
- Maintain a written plan to verify that all students participating in clinical practice settings are physically and mentally competent to provide safe client care
STUDENT ADVOCACY
- Conduct orientation session at the beginning of each paramedic cohort group
- Ensure orientation sessions are conducted as appropriate for each course of the paramedic program
- Serve as initial resource when student problems are not resolved
- Recommend course substitutions and waivers for students
- Participating in student recruitment, advisement and retention efforts
FACULTY
- Recommend faculty appointments
- Evaluate faculty and staff per college policy and procedures
- Verify current licensure and educational credentials of full and part-time faculty
- Provide orientation program for faculty
- Conduct classroom visitations for faculty and clinical visits for preceptors and recommend professional development activities
