The Emergency Department Patient Access Coordinator supervises an assigned shift in the Emergency Department which operates 24/7/365. This job oversees and manages registration operations and assigned staff, coordinates staffing coverage and monitors patient flow. This job also ensures registration and admissions are completed for the designated shift in an efficient and timely manner. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: N/A

Experience REQUIRED:
Minimum of two (2) years of patient registration/scheduling work experience in a healthcare setting
Experience PREFERRED:
One (1) year of previous supervisory/lead work experience
Experience in an academic healthcare setting
Education/training REQUIRED:High School Diploma or equivalent
Education/training PREFERRED: Associates Degree in Business Administration or a healthcare related field from an accredited program
Independent action(s) required:
Handles the day-to-day operations of the shift independently.
Resolves registration issues independently.
Issues that involve violation of VCUHS policies and procedures, involve conflicts of a sensitive nature or that would be considered unusual in nature are to be brought to the attention of the immediate supervisor immediately.
Job duties may include the access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.
Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable):
Supervises assigned registration staff to including hiring, completing performance evaluations, training, and coordinating/delivering disciplinary action.
Additional position requirements:
Incumbents are required to cover three shifts, weekends and holidays as scheduled and are considered essential personnel and expected to report to work as assigned.
