Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant provides clinical and operational support within the Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery clinic. This role supports patient-centered care for patients being evaluated and treated for complex gynecologic conditions, pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, surgical consultations, pre-operative care, and post-operative follow-up.

The CMA works closely with providers, nurses, APPs, fellows, residents, front desk staff, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to support safe, efficient clinic flow. Responsibilities include patient rooming, vital signs, medication and allergy review, medical, surgical, and OB/GYN history taking, exam and procedure preparation, specimen support, documentation support, supply readiness, and communication of patient needs to the appropriate clinical team member.

Incentive:

$7,500 commitment incentive paid out in 3 installments over 3 years.

Key Responsibilities - MIGS Clinic

* Room patients and prepare them for provider visits.

* Obtain and document vital signs, medication lists, allergies, preferred pharmacy, and other required intake information.

* Review visit reason and update appropriate clinical information in the EMR.

* Assist providers and nurses with exams, procedures, and clinic workflows.

* Prepare exam rooms, procedure rooms, instruments, and supplies before patient visits.

* Clean and restock rooms between patients according to infection prevention standards.

* Support clinic flow by anticipating provider and patient needs.

* Communicate patient concerns, urgent needs, or changes in condition to the nurse or provider.

* Assist with specimen collection, labeling, and transport according to policy.

* Support patient education by reinforcing instructions provided by the nurse or provider.

* Help complete forms, paperwork, and patient care documents as directed.

* Maintain supply levels and communicate supply needs to the appropriate teammate.

* Support patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality during sensitive gynecologic visits.

* Document care and clinical activities accurately in the EMR within scope of role.

* Send physical therapy referrals as directed.

* Call in compounded prescriptions as directed and within scope.

* Assist with or complete prior authorizations as appropriate.

* Assist with completion of FMLA and short-term disability forms as directed.

Surgical and Procedural Support

* Support pre-operative and post-operative clinic visits by preparing rooms, gathering needed supplies, and assisting with patient flow.

* Assist with in-office gynecologic procedures as appropriate within CMA scope and clinic policy.

* Help ensure procedural supplies, consents, forms, and equipment are available for clinic needs.

* Communicate barriers or missing items to the nurse, provider, or lead teammate in a timely manner.

Cross-Training

* Participate in cross-training with Family Planning or other GYN clinic areas as needed to support patient care and clinic operations.

Preferred

* Experience in GYN, women's health, or outpatient clinic setting.

* Experience with Epic or similar electronic medical record system.

    * Experience assisting with procedures, room turnover, and specialty clinic workflows.

      Other Information

      Education Requirements:
      * None required as long as other position qualifications are met.
      * Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accreditation Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred but not required.
      Licensure/Certification Requirements:
      * Requires Medical Assistant certification by either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA).
      * Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required.
      Professional Experience Requirements:
      * Possess at least one year of full-time experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified.
      * Demonstrate possession of the competencies outlined in the Medical Assistant, Certified Advancement Worksheet through their application and interview.
      Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
      * Ability to perform the essential functions of the position as outlined above.
      * Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
      * Demonstrated ability to engage positively with patients and families and to work as a team with staff and providers.
      * Ability to use a computer to document required information into the electronic medical record.
