What your job will be like:

Leads the design, development, and deployment of advanced data acquisition (DAQ) and real-time streaming data processing systems for nuclear physics experiments at Jefferson Lab. Drives architecture and technical strategy for large-scale, high-throughput, distributed data pipelines, enabling cross-facility integration and sustained performance at extreme data rates. Provides technical leadership across projects, guiding system design, optimization, and deployment while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

In this job you will:
  • Work with domain experts in Physics, Data Science, and Computer Science to develop highly efficient scientific software.
  • Maintain and document software developed with EPSCI participation.
  • Support Scientists using EPSCI software with new feature support, bug fixes and training.
  • Work within a group, but complete tasks independently and report on results.
  • Develop and support Data Acquisition Software including support of the domain scientists using it.
Experience
  • Required: No Relevant Experience
  • Preferred: 2 or more years Experience with data acquisition (DAQ) systems and real-time streaming architectures
  • Preferred: 2 or more years Experience with distributed systems, high-performance computing, and large-scale data pipelines
Education
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree Computer Science or Related Field
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Accomplishments in developing computational infrastructure and applications that are in production use for experimental offline computing.
  • The ability to work collaboratively on some projects and independently on others.
  • Knowledge of at least one programming language and one scripting language.
  • Understanding of software development methodologies.
  • The ability to support applications through the full life cycle.
  • Knowledge of relevant technologies or techniques such as data visualization, machine learning and distributed computing. Experimental reconstruction code development.
  • Knowledge of common community tools such as Geant4.
  • Ability to engage in the 12 GeV scientific program or in the EIC development.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
