Who we are and what we do:

The Manager of Research & Data Use contributes to the Research & Data Use Teams mission to conduct essential data support activities to facilitate the departments data-driven decision-making process.

How you make a difference in this role:

With guidance from the Senior Director of Research & Data Use, the individual will be tasked with managing the departments non-public information request process to ensure all data-sharing activities are aligned with federal and state privacy laws.

Job Overview:

The Manager of Research & Data Use will be responsible for leading content development as well as providing administrative and logistics support for the annual Tennessee Educator Survey and District Landscape Survey. The individual will also fulfill various data requests the department receives. The department is seeking an individual with strong attention to detail, excellent organizational and communication skills, desire for continuous process improvement, and adaptability.

Key Responsibilities:

Management of Non-Public Information Requests Process:

  • Support the Senior Director of Research & Data Use in coordinating the departments non-public information requests process.

  • Monitor the departments Data Management inbox to respond to inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders in a timely manner.

  • Facilitate the establishment of data sharing agreements to ensure secure data sharing activities at all times.

Management of the Tennessee Educator Survey:

  • Collaborate with external partners to support the administration of the annual Tennessee Educator Survey.

  • Facilitate conversations with program teams across the department to gather feedback on potential revisions to the survey content.

  • Draft any necessary communication materials and ensure all inquiries are responded to in a timely manner.

  • Provide any logistics support during the survey window as necessary.

Management of the District Landscape Survey:

  • Support the Senior Director of Research & Data Use in conducting needs assessment sessions with program team.

  • Develop survey content based on feedback from program teams.

  • Draft any necessary communication materials and ensure all inquiries are responded to in a timely manner.

  • Provide logistics support during the survey window as necessary.

Data Repository Management:

  • Ensure all data files and information on the departments Data Downloads website are up to date.

  • Coordinate with the Office of General Counsel to capture necessary legal requirements and ensure all resources are aligned with applicable federal and state privacy laws.

Survey Results Reporting:

  • Create summary reports and one-page resources as assigned.

Data Requests:

  • Fulfill both internal and external data requests in a timely and accurate manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Possession of a master's degree in education, education administration, or other related field and substantial educational work experience (5 or more years) including 3 years of education administration or supervisory work.

Preferred Experience and Knowledge:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in survey development and administration.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in project coordination/management.

  • 1-2 years of experience in data cleaning, transformations, analytics, and visualizations to complete moderately complex tasks using R and/or Python is required.

  • Proficiency in task management tools such as Microsoft Planner is required.

  • Proficiency in task automation tools such as Microsoft Power Automate is required. Experience in interacting with data systems using SQL is a plus. Experience in data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau is a plus.
