The Adult Infusion Centers at Mt. Zion and Mission Bay service the Medical Oncology population at UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center as well as any non-oncology infusion needs of patients at UCSF. The treatments include but are not limited to chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, blood transfusions, hydration and electrolyte therapy, injections and blood draws, enzymes and iron infusions, and antibiotics. The centers collectively consist of over 100 chairs/beds and treatments include research and standard of care infusions. The infusion centers are staffed by Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Medical Assistants, and Practice Coordinators.

The Outpatient Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) delivers direct patient care to an assigned adult infusion outpatient population. This nurse is experienced and highly skilled with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the cancer and non-cancer disease process, the major treatment modalities, symptom management, supportive care, and patient education. The nurse utilizes an interdisciplinary approach across the continuum of care, adhering to the National Patient Safety Goals set forth by regulatory requirements. The nurse is recognized and utilized as a clinical resource and demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the unit and the organization.

Required Qualifications:

  • Two years recent RN adult clinical Oncology Nursing experience
  • Two years of recent outpatient infusion experience
  • Active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Current Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Provider Card

  • Experience administering chemotherapy and biotherapy infusions, pain management, transfusion therapy, hydration, etc
  • Knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to this position
  • Demonstrates evidence of basic analytic thinking necessary to care for a group of complex patients such as oncology and a high degree of attention to detail
  • Demonstrates observational skills and the ability to set priorities. Ability to function independently and effectively with shifting priorities and considerable pressure

  • Demonstrates effective skills in applying hospital standards in area of service, team work, communication, respect for others, and time/priority management
  • Ability to function under stress and with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to delegate tasks in a style that is consistent with promoting leadership and teamwork, seeking assistance as needed; ability to demonstrate leadership experience that support teamwork, professionalism, high quality patient experience, evidence based clinical practice, or other relevant topics
  • Demonstrates ability to develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with physicians, nurses, and other medical staff Contributes to team building through participation in unit programs and meetings; contributes to positive morale, using constructive and effective conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrates ability to remain current in professional and technical knowledge and apply this to the job; looks for opportunities for continual improvement in patient care, the work environment, and a commitment to lifelong learning in the field of nursing
  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three years adult Oncology nursing experience
  • OCN Certification or other relevant specialty certification
  • Membership in professional organizations

License/Certifications:

  • Active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Current Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Provider Card
