The USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California seeks a highly qualified adjunct instructor to teach a hands-on undergraduate course focused on sports media production and on-camera storytelling, JOUR 404: Produce and Host Sports Content in Studio A. JOUR 404 introduces students to the creation and hosting of web-based shows and interviews centered on sports and athletic-related content, emphasizing experiential learning and real-world application.

This dynamic course is designed for students with varying levels of production experience and focuses on developing communication skills applicable across sports-related professions, including journalism, public relations, sports marketing, and sports management. Through a "learn by doing" approach, students will produce original web/mobile shows while gaining experience in emerging media formats such as podcasts, vlogs, social media interviews, and live-streamed content.

Applicants should be able to teach students how to research, pitch, produce, and host compelling sports-related content across multiple platforms. Instruction will emphasize editorial judgment, interviewing techniques, on-camera performance, and storytelling, along with technical production skills. Students will be responsible for creating multiple "show" projects, culminating in a final production that demonstrates their growth as producers and hosts.

Applicants should also be familiar with evolving digital media tools and formats, including mobile and webcam production, live streaming platforms such as YouTube and Instagram Live, and the integration of visual elements into storytelling. The instructor should be comfortable guiding students in developing confidence on camera, thinking critically under pressure, and adapting to real-time production challenges.

Requirements for consideration include a B.A., B.S., M.S., or M.A. degree in journalism, communications, media production, or a related field. Previous teaching experience is desirable; however, significant professional experience in sports media, broadcasting, or digital content creation may be substituted for academic credentials.

Applicants should send a letter describing their background, interests, and areas of expertise, and an up-to-date resume or curriculum vitae through the Careers at USC website.

The hourly range for this position is $37.88 - $46.96. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

USC reserves the "Adjunct" appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time at USC who are employed full-time in a primary profession or career elsewhere. Adjunct faculty typically teach only one course per year, but in exceptional cases, may teach one course per semester, if approved by the dean.
