The Opportunity:

In this role, you will report to the site services supervisor and will work closely with the Avantor's Lab and Production Services professionals to serve our customers by performing customized, mission-based lab work and research protocols that help return time back to science.

Hourly Rate: $24 - $26

Location: La Jolla, CA

Shifts: Monday -Friday, Full Time, Start time can be 7 am - 9 am

What we're looking for

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's Degree in Science (preferred) or equivalent experience

  • Experience: 1+ years equivalent experience ina chemistry laboratory setting

  • Collaboration Tool: Microsoft Teams experience

  • Understanding of chemical structures and compounds management, hazard classification and chemical segregation techniques

  • Knowledgeof VWR's products andservices helpful

  • Training in the following for those locations that require shipping:

  • 49 CFR 172.704 for DOT Hazardous Materials Regulation

  • 40 Hours OSHA

  • Emergency Response and Preparedness

How you will thrive and create an impact

Avantor's Lab and Production Services team is a crucial part of the Avantor Services group serving over 500 customers in biopharma, pharmaceutical, educational, industrial, and high-tech industries with customizable, flexible solutions and end-to-end laboratory operations support.

In this role you will:

  • Receives and may dispense various chemicals (currently 45000+) as requested by global chemistry research staff. This may involve identifying, re-naming and bar-coding prior to placing into inventory.

  • Identifies proper containers to transport, deliver, and potentially ship chemicals and compounds to locations around the world. This may involve weighing and repacking.

  • Daily fulfillment of chemical orders from customers/researchers.

  • Utilizing the inventory management system, dispenses/deliver chemicals from containers to researchers or requester. Prepares orders for shipment.

  • Chemical orders from chemistry personnel are received by stockroom staff and checked for accuracy, registered into inventory database, assigned to the user and returned to the loading dock.

  • Adds enhanced descriptions when registering containers including adding relevant details such as concentration, mixture, etc.

  • Segregates all incoming chemicals and those returned by scientists in the stockroom by hazard class, DOT requirements, etc,

  • Properly stage for disposal all expired and out of date chemicals; evaluate chemicals and mixtures for qualityand safety. Keeps record of disposals.

  • Delivers and picks up stockroom orders to/from the labs.

  • Stores sensitive materials in Cold Storage Refrigerator.

  • Maintenance of inventory using customer systems.

  • Maintains the accuracy of the chemical inventory by scanning all bottles in the stockroom and in the labs.

  • Maintain regulatory lists and safety information in applicable systems for all tracked chemicals.

  • Participates in lab cleanouts.

  • May prepares appropriate shipping paperwork for requested chemicals to be delivered via inter-campus or to other global customer locations.

  • Creates and adheres to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay Transparency:

The expected pre-tax pay for this position is

$39,000.00 - $62,675.00

Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
