THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This leadership position supervises mechanics who repair and maintain a wide range of vehicles, construction equipment, and tools used across the Commonwealth's transportation system. Through your work, you will ensure equipment reliability, safety, and compliance with state standards. As a Mechanic Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Repair Oversight: Supervise mechanical troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on fleet equipment
  • Work Coordination: Assign tasks, review work orders, and check parts and time charges for accuracy
  • Safety Management: Promote safe work practices and ensure proper use of protective equipment
  • Staff Leadership: Evaluate staff performance, support training needs, and guide employees in daily tasks
  • Facility Maintenance: Ensure the repair shop is kept clean, organized, and safe for all staff
  • Technical Support: Demonstrate repair methods and assist mechanics with complex equipment issues

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of journey level mechanical experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Class A or B Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the Air Brake restriction (L) removed and the tank vehicle (N) endorsement.
  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 4 or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification.
