POSITION DESCRIPTION

Perform skilled journey level work independently or as part of regular maintenance crew. May be assigned duties in one or more of the building trades including, but not limited to, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, locks, e-locks, HVAC, and boiler and steam generator systems. Instruct unskilled or semi-skilled assistants. Assigned to cover campus Housing and Dining Services facilities performing maintenance work dispatched by Customer Service Center dispatcher, maintenance superintendent or campus police. Provides a high level of customer service to customers. Works as a team in conjunction with other divisions within Housing, Dining, Hospitality and other campus departments.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Journey level skill in one or more of the following trades: plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, boiler and steam systems and HVAC.

  • Knowledge of types of pipe and tubing for water, steam and gas systems and refrigeration.

  • Experience using tools for installing and repairing plumbing systems, electrical systems, refrigeration, HVAC, sheet metal and power tools for carpentry.

  • Experience making temporary and permanent repairs to doors and hardware.

  • Experience with hermetic and semi-hermetic type compressors and chillers.

  • Knowledge and skill to use all types of meters.

  • Knowledge of the operation and construction of drain clearing equipment.

  • Knowledge and skill to operate electric arc-welder, tig-welder and gas welding equipment.

  • Ability to identify and use different types of refrigerant.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with people of many diverse backgrounds, including students, staff, faculty, and guests.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Ability to follow all safety precautions in methods and use of equipment.

  • Ability and skill to use all tools appropriate for mechanical and electrical maintenance.

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service, including greeting the customers, completing work in a professional, cooperative manner, providing a solution or an estimated time when you can get back to them, and following up till the job is completed.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Background check required.

  • Required to hold valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.

  • Required to work scheduled shifts, including nights and weekends - may need to work five 8-hour or four 10-hour shifts, including day shift, evening shift and night shift. Proper notice will be given. Employee will work on holidays that fall on scheduled workdays.

  • Required to work overtime as needed.

  • Must be certified at the Universal level to handle refrigerant at time of hire.

Annual Full Pay Range: $103,293 - $103,293 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $49.47 - $49.47

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
