Environmental Data & Reporting Engineer

Position Summary

Environmental Data & Reporting Engineer owns the collection, validation, and reporting of environmental and sustainability data across a multi-site manufacturing network. This role plays a critical part in ensuring data accuracy, identifying trends and anomalies, and driving resolution of reporting issues across facilities, systems, and stakeholders.

This is a highly analytical, detail-oriented role ideal for an early-career professional who enjoys working with data, solving problems, and operating with a high degree of ownership. You'll collaborate cross-functionally while independently managing recurring reporting cycles and continuously improving processes. This role is primarily focused on environmental data, reporting, and systems, rather than site-level environmental compliance execution or ESG strategy development.

Success in this role requires strong organization, sound judgment, and the ability to manage recurring work independently while maintaining visibility, clear documentation, and continuity across workstreams.

What You'll Do:

Data Ownership & Reporting

  • Own recurring environmental and sustainability data collection, validation, and reporting processes
  • Analyze large datasets (energy, waste, water, recycling, etc.) to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Identify anomalies, investigate root causes, and coordinate corrections with facilities and internal partners
  • Support greenhouse gas inventory development by reviewing activity data, validating emissions calculation logic, and checking emissions outputs for accuracy
  • Deliver accurate, timely reporting for internal stakeholders and corporate reporting needs

Data Analysis & Insights

  • Use Excel and reporting tools to analyze trends and identify outliers across facilities
  • Translate data into clear summaries and insights for internal stakeholders
  • Support data-driven decision-making by improving visibility into environmental performance

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Support and help improve environmental reporting systems and data workflows
  • Troubleshoot data and system issues in collaboration with IT and software vendors
  • Identify opportunities to streamline reporting processes and improve data quality over time

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with facility teams, IT, corporate communications, and other stakeholders to resolve data issues
  • Support customer environmental data requests using validated internal data sources
  • Contribute to annual sustainability / corporate citizenship reporting efforts

Compliance & Documentation Support

  • Maintain organized records, files, templates, and supporting documentation to support auditability, consistency, and continuity across recurring and annual processes
  • Support environmental compliance tracking processes (e.g., vendor documentation, reporting support)
  • Apply working knowledge of environmental concepts to identify and escalate potential concerns

What Success Looks Like

  • You take full ownership of reporting cycles within your first few months
  • You proactively identify and resolve data discrepancies
  • You build strong working relationships across facilities and functions
  • You improve reporting accuracy, efficiency, and processes over time
  • You operate independently while keeping stakeholders informed and aligned
  • You create continuity by maintaining organized documentation, clear file structures, and repeatable process records

What We're Looking For:

Core Skills & Traits

  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage recurring responsibilities without close oversight
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and sound judgment
  • Highly organized with a disciplined approach to data and documentation
  • Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to maintain visibility into work progress and keep others informed without being closely managed
  • Comfort with recurring, detail-oriented work and seasonal reporting cycles

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, large dataset analysis)
  • Experience working with data/reporting systems or databases
  • Comfort troubleshooting data issues across systems and stakeholders
  • Familiarity with greenhouse gas inventory concepts, including activity data, emissions factors, and basic CO2e calculation methods

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or Sustainability Engineering
  • 2-5 years of experience preferred; internships/co-ops or other relevant experience considered for strong early-career candidates
  • Exposure to manufacturing environments or industrial data preferred
  • Experience with environmental or sustainability data/reporting is a plus
