The Opportunity with McKinstry

McKinstry is looking for a Safety Program Director in the South Region. This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and leading the line-of-business safety program. Additional responsibilities may include:

Safety Implementation

  • Provide senior-level leadership for EHS strategy, execution, and continuous improvement across the South region.
  • Ensure alignment and consistent implementation of corporate safety programs across active and future projects.
  • Oversee development, review, and effectiveness of job-specific safety plans, audits, and inspections.
  • Establish expectations and accountability for hazard control, regulatory compliance, and safe work practices through regional leadership and delegation.
  • Lead and support response to serious incidents, investigations, lessons learned, and corrective action deployment.
  • Serve as regional liaison during regulatory inspections and external audits.
  • Promote a strong safety culture that reinforces engagement, accountability, and the belief that safety is a core business and marketing differentiator.
  • Engage with external safety organizations and industry peers to benchmark and elevate regional performance.

People Management

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development for regional EHS staff.
  • Recruit, hire, and performance-manage assigned team members.
  • Build bench strength and succession planning for regional safety leadership roles.

Administrative

  • Monitor regulatory changes and ensure regional compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and company requirements.
  • Review and ensure accuracy of required safety documentation, reporting, and recordkeeping across the region.
  • Provide oversight of Experience Modification Rate (EMR), trends, and regional improvement strategies.
  • Establish expectations for jobsite safety orientations and onboarding processes.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of general construction experience with emphasis on construction and/or industrial safety required.

  • Experience in management of a Safety team or related management experience required.

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) or equivalent preferred.

  • OSHA 30-Hour (Construction) required; OSHA 500/501 Trainer certification preferred.

  • Experience leading large-scale, MEP-intensive and mission-critical projects (e.g., data centers, healthcare, manufacturing), with a strong background in design-build delivery, prefabrication integration, and operational safety excellence

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety or related field or equivalent work experience required.

  • Understanding of applicable federal, state, local and company regulations required.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Visio required.

  • Working knowledge of SharePoint preferred.

The pay range for this position is $110,790 - $190,700 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
