DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this Corrections Electrical Trade Instructor position with SCI Coal Township, you will teach inmates how to work safely and effectively in the repair and construction of low- and high-voltage electrical systems. We will rely on you to offer clear communication, practical demonstrations, and ongoing guidance while maintaining order and discipline of inmates during work assignments and classroom instruction. Your responsibilities will include:
- Classroom Instruction: Deliver textbook-based classroom lessons on standard practices of the electronics trade
- Hands-On Training: Guide inmates through on-the-job training in maintenance and repair tasks
- Subject Matter Knowledge: Understand and teach inmates how to work with a wide range of components including lighting, power outlets, conduit, underground circuits, switch boxes, breaker panels, switchgear, transformers, motors, electrical appliances, and generators
- Work Crew Oversight: Plan and assign work to inmates at various skill levels; review and inspect work in progress and upon completion to ensure it meets the standards of the electrical trade
- Materials Management: Issue, track, and account for all tools and materials used in training and work activities; conduct searches; identify materials and submit related purchase requests needed to complete work orders
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate documentation of inmate progress, attendance, and schedules

- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week.
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,868 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Five years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment used in buildings; or
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the electrical trade; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the electrical trade.
Other Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
