THE POSITION

The Clerical Supervisor 2 position with the Department of Human Services offers a chance to guide a busy clerical team toward strong, reliable performance. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position plays a crucial role in overseeing and directing the clerical unit that supports the income maintenance staff at the Cumberland County Assistance Office. The role ensures that staff receive guidance, training, and structure while meeting agency standards. As a Clerical Supervisor 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Workflow Management: Assign and review clerical tasks to support timely and accurate assistance benefits processing
  • Staff Leadership: Train and guide employees to improve operations, as well as identify and address personnel issues within the team and recommend appropriate actions
  • Operational Oversight: Implement procedures and ensure accurate handling of mail, documents, and controlled materials
  • Resource Coordination: Manage supplies, purchasing processes, and equipment needs for the office
  • System Monitoring: Track data entries, system issues, and application processing to support smooth operations
  • Communication Support: Share updates, coordinate meetings, and assist with messages that keep staff informed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch. This may change based on operational needs.
  • Travel and overtime as needed
  • Work Conditions: Assigned duties are performed in a controlled office environment. In counties with District Offices, employees may be reassigned to different work sites due to operational needs. Reassignments will be made in compliance with contract language.

  • Telework: This position may be eligible to telework part time. Specific details of the telework schedule will be discussed during the interview process. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Carlisle. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Clerical Supervisor 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year as a Clerical Assistant 3 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years as a Clerical Assistant 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Cumberland County. If no eligible candidates who live within Cumberland County apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
