THE POSITION

As a Psychological Services Specialist, Corrections with the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Camp Hill, you play an important role in helping inmates manage emotional and behavioral needs during a period of incarceration with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections (DOC). You support treatment goals through testing, counseling, and direct collaboration with clinical teams. Each day offers the chance to foster positive change and promote stability. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role focuses on providing psychological services that support inmate adjustment, treatment, and classification within the correctional setting. You conduct evaluations, prepare detailed reports, deliver counseling, and help develop new therapeutic programs in partnership with leadership. As a Psychological Services Specialist, Corrections, you will perform the following duties:

  • Counseling Services: Provide individual and group therapy to address behavior, emotional needs, and treatment goals
  • Psychological Reports: Write reports for classification, clinical interviews, parole summaries, updates, evaluations, and other required documents
  • Psychological Testing: Administer and interpret standardized tests to support evaluation and diagnostic processes
  • Program Development: Collaborate with the Licensed Psychologist Manager to create new education and therapeutic programs
  • Crisis Response: Provide initial crisis intervention until additional professional services are coordinated
  • Interdisciplinary Work: Coordinate with institutional departments and mental health facilities to support inmate needs

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
    • Additional pay will be considered for those who currently possess or obtain licensure as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, or Professional Counselor issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional Counselors. Documentation will need to be provided at interview to receive additional pay consideration.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years as a Psychological Services Associate Corrections (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • A Master's degree in psychology or a closely related field which includes fifteen graduate level credits in psychology; and two years of experience in the field of psychology under the direct supervision of a licensed psychologist.
Other Requirements:
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown. PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
