The Dispatcher I plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient coordination of field operations by managing the assignment and distribution of work orders. This role is responsible for dispatching both company-initiated and customer-generated requests, including high-priority emergency situations such as gas leaks, gas odors, damaged lines, fires, and explosions. By accurately prioritizing and assigning tasks to appropriate field personnel, the Dispatcher I ensures timely response and adherence to company standards, as well as compliance with state utility commission and federal regulatory requirements.

This position requires employees to work nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and assigned shifts at the Gastonia, NC office location.

What You Will Do:

  • Respond to and process emergency calls from 911 and Enbridge customers, creating and dispatching priority work orders to field personnel.

  • Coordinate communication between customers, field teams, and internal departments.

  • Prepare and manage daily workload distribution, ensuring timely assignment of service orders by priority and scheduling needs.

  • Maintain accurate reports, logs, and on-call personnel records.

  • Monitor ongoing work with field supervisors, adjusting assignments, scheduling overtime, and balancing workloads as needed.

  • Manage escalation notifications and communicate critical incidents to management and operations teams.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support operational efficiency.

Who You Are:

  • Completed high school or equivalent (i.e. GED).

  • 1-2 years' directly-related experience (Directly Related Experience includes: Education, Retail/Customer Service; Public Safety Services, Field Service Operations, Transportation, and/or Logistics Planning experience).

  • Familiarity of common office software and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Associate's Degree

  • 2+ years experience

  • Dispatch/Call Center experience

  • Two-way radio and dispatching equipment/code experience

  • Typing experience (25 wpm).

  • Certified Emergency Number Professional (ENP).

  • Certified Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD).

  • Working knowledge of typical systems and applications in a dispatch environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Dispatch is 24/7 with 3 shifts. Shift bids typically occur on a yearly basis, and the results of these shift bids may change an individual's schedule for the following year.

  • During the training period, the successful candidate will be required to come in to the office 5 days per week. Shifts may vary during training period. The training period is typically around 12 weeks. Once training is complete, the successful candidate will be eligible to work the designated hybrid schedule (current hybrid schedule is 3 days in office and 2 days at home).

  • Requires long periods of sitting.

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:

Balancing, bending and stooping, climbing, crawling, carrying (up to 15 amount of pounds), grasping, kneeling, lifting (objects 15 pounds), pulling hand over hand, pushing, reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, sitting, standing, walking, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement,

Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand complex problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, organize and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda and basic reports and communicate with individuals via telephone.
