About the Job

The University of Minnesota is seeking a Casual Laboratory Technician with organizational and time management skills to work on projects centered on chronic pain. The ideal candidate will have an interest in performing some of the following: protein/RNA/DNA assays, mouse colony management, pre-clinical behavioral assays, tissue dissection, histology, microscopy, tissue/cell culture and general lab management. The ideal applicant will be able to work both independently and as part of team. As specific tasks associated with this position will shift with each project; a willingness to learn and be flexible is critical for this position.

Responsibilities:
* Lab procedures (75%): Examples include extraction and measurement of protein/RNA/DNA, in vivo behavioral assays, histology and microscopy.
* Documentation and communication (25%): Writing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), detailed documentation of methods and experimental results, contributing to scientific communication through poster and oral presentations and manuscript preparation.
* Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.
Required Qualifications:
* BA/BS degree in a STEM-related field
* 1 year of experience in a laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Prior experience working with DNA/RNA or protein
* Prior experience in histology or microscopy
* Prior experience working with preclinical model systems

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $20.00/hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
