Qualifications

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree AND experience equivalent to one year of full-time professional staff administrative and/or analytic experience.

Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying full-time increasingly responsible sub professional, para-professional, or professional experience may be substituted for the required education, on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of four years.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional graduate coursework in public administration, business administration, or other acceptable field may be substituted for the required experience, on a year-for-year basis.

OR

One year of professional administrative services experience with the State of Tennessee.

Overview


The Tennessee State Museum is seeking an Assistant Museum Store Manager to support daily retail operations across its Museum Store locations. This role assists with merchandise management, customer service, sales performance, and overall store presentation to ensure a positive and engaging visitor experience. The Assistant Museum Store Manager plays a key part in aligning store activities with the Museums mission and standards, working Tuesday through Saturday. This position reports to the Museum Store Manager.

Responsibilities

  1. Execute Museum and Store policies and procedures to ensure consistently high-quality visitor experiences.
  2. Assist in managing daily retail operations to maintain an attractive, well-organized store environment that reflects the Museum's mission.
  3. Model and reinforce strong customer service standards; address visitor needs and concerns professionally and promptly.
  4. Oversee timely opening and closing procedures for all Museum Store locations, including special events that require retail presence.
  5. Provide direction, guidance, and support to store associates as needed.
  6. Assist with receiving merchandise, establishing pricing, and coordinating product displays in collaboration with other departments.
  7. Motivate staff to achieve and exceed sales goals while ensuring consistently positive guest interactions.
  8. Communicate updates regarding merchandise orders, product arrivals, and procedures for receiving, inventory management, and stocking.
  9. Relay relevant information to Museum departments regarding events, programs, promotions, and sales initiatives.
  10. Apply best practices in cash handling, counting, and drawer opening and closing procedures.
  11. Track inventory levels, including counts and expiration dates when applicable, and provide timely updates to management.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.
