Overview
*Premium Posting* - Located onboard ARDM 4 SHIPPINGPORT Candidate must be able to:
Maintain and operate shipboard electrical and electronic systems associated with the floating Drydock such as power and lighting distribution, alarms and indicators, HVAC, cathodic protection, motors & controllers, programmable logic controllers, communication systems and variable frequency drives.
- Prepare the Drydock for Docking and Undocking of vessels.
- Maintain the Drydock basin including blocks, ground tackle, chains and gear box assemblies.
- Assist the Dockmaster in warping the unit into and out of the Drydock utilizing the Auto Centering System, direct line handlers and set up hotel services for the vessel in dock.
- Maintain watchstanding and maintenance logs.
- Make inspections of the drydock and pier areas for safety and fire hazards.
- Be capable of climbing 50 foot vertical ladders, steep stairways, and work at various heights.
- Be willing to work weekends, holidays, and work odd hours to support docking evolutions.
- Participate in extensive on the job training, to read numerous manuals and complete several qualifications in order to qualify on drydock systems. Such systems include but are not limited to firefighting, sewage, air, water, electrical distribution, HVAC, Emergency Diesel, Auto Docking, Auto Centering and ballasting systems.
- Gain sufficient knowledge to pass a both a written and oral examination in order to stand a Roving and Security Watch within six (6) months of starting.
- Must qualify as a Limited Radiation Worker.
- Required to obtain and maintain fall protection certification.
- Must qualify to perform maintenance IAW the Navy 3-M/PMS Program.
- Assist in snow removal for the Drydock and pier areas to ensure personnel safety.
- Maintain the cleanliness of assigned spaces.
- Have the capability to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and components using applicable technical publications and drawings.
- Capable of using a computer and familiar with MS office programs.
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent or 2+ years technical experience
- Candidates must be able to understand and explain basic electrical/electronic theory, as well as the ability to interpret electrical drawings, blueprints and diagrams.
- Candidates must be able to discuss and demonstrate basic troubleshooting techniques, and the effective use of electronics test equipment.
- Must hold or be able to obtain a DOD Secret security clearance.
Preferred:
- Completion of specialized training in the electronics field beyond high school: e: Electronics certification courses, Vocational courses, or technical college.
- Military or shipboard experience is preferred, additional preference given to related U. S. Navy service.
- Previous docking or line handling experience.
- Experience operating, testing and troubleshooting PLC's.
- Background in U.S. Navy's 3-M system and any previous dry-dock experience a plus.
