OVERVIEW

Merrick & Company is seeking a Senior International Accountant to support and oversee financial operations across Canada and Mexico. This role is responsible for international accounting, statutory reporting, and tax coordination, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and local regulatory requirements.

This position plays a critical role within the Financial Services team, partnering with internal stakeholders and external advisors to maintain accurate financial reporting and efficient cross-border operations.


WHAT YOU'LL DO

International Accounting & Financial Close

  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for international entities
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements
  • Ensure consistency with U.S. GAAP and Merrick accounting policies
  • Maintain accurate and timely recording of financial transactions across entities
  • Maintain in-country accounting systems and records as required by country

Statutory Reporting & Compliance

  • Coordinate preparation and review of local statutory financial statements
  • Support external audits and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Partner with local accounting firms to ensure compliance with country-specific standards
  • Monitor changes in international accounting regulations and ensure adherence

International Tax & Audit Support

  • Support corporate income tax filings in Canada and Mexico
  • Assist with indirect taxes, including VAT, GST/HST, and local requirements
  • Support tax filings with Puerto Rico B2B tax
  • Coordinate tax provision activities and tax-related reporting
  • Work closely with external tax advisors to ensure timely and accurate filings
  • Lead yearly Canada compilation
  • Lead transfer pricing review for Merrick Mexico annually

Intercompany & Cross-Border Accounting

  • Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations across global entities
  • Support foreign currency translation and remeasurement
  • Ensure proper documentation, alignment, and elimination of cross-border activity

Process Improvement & Standardization

  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Support systems and process alignment across international operations
  • Contribute to ongoing financial systems initiatives and enhancements

Business Partnership

  • Collaborate with corporate accounting, finance leadership, and operations teams
  • Provide insights into financial performance for international entities
  • Support strategic initiatives and cross-functional projects

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3-7+ years of accounting experience (public accounting or corporate)
  • Experience with multi-entity or international accounting environments
  • Strong understanding of financial statements and close processes
  • Fluency in Spanish (required)
  • Client projects for this position require US Citizenship.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • CPA or equivalent certification
  • Experience with Canadian and/or Mexican accounting and regulatory environments
  • Exposure to international tax concepts and coordination
  • Experience with ERP systems (Costpoint or similar preferred)
