Overview

TRC is seeking a full-time Environmental Scientist in the Planning, Permitting, and Licensing practice of our East Providence, RI office to support field and office needs. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Project Managers and Team Leaders and will integrate with the regional team to complete a variety of technical tasks and projects.


Responsibilities

  • Support variety of field programs including, but not limited to, wetlands delineations, vegetation surveys, vernal pool surveys, wildlife studies, and water quality monitoring.
  • Maintain and operate field monitoring and sampling equipment.
  • Collect multimedia samples (water, soil, etc.), assure acceptable sample handling, and coordinate with laboratories as needed.
  • Ensure that collected data are accurately documented, well-organized, and of high quality.
  • Prepare permit applications and participate in regulatory permitting processes for a variety of project types. This is expected to include permitting through municipal conservation commissions and boards, state agencies (e.g., MassDEP, CT DEEP, RIDEM), and related federal permitting (e.g., Sections 404, 10, 408).
  • Execute work in accordance with work plans/scopes of work.
  • Compile and analyze ecological and other environmental data.
  • Write reports and impact assessments.
  • Prepare permit applications and attend project-related meetings.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks in varying environments and conditions (i.e., heat, cold) including completing field sampling activities, lifting and carrying equipment, and operating in remote locations. The position requires significant field work (generally single-day events, though overnight travel may also be required).
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety and adhere to TRC Health & Safety Standards in all field-related activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, forestry, wetland science, or related field.
  • Familiar with digital field technology (GPS units, tablets, data collection apps, etc.).
  • Five years of relevant professional experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Position requires ability to communicate effectively with external parties (e.g., clients, agency staff, stakeholders) as well as internal ones (e.g., project managers, task managers, field staff).
  • Prior permitting experience and familiarity with environmental regulatory programs in New England.
  • Previous experience leading field sampling efforts and conducting field work.
  • Self-motivated and detail oriented. Must have the ability to safely work through issues encountered during field activities.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a safe driving record. Must be able to pass a pre-employment motor vehicle records check and drive a company vehicle (truck).
  • Exhibit proficiency in data management and reporting using standard office productivity software (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.).

Additional Valued Skills:

  • Experience with small boats (outboard motorboats, Jon boats, canoes, kayaks). Holding a boating safety certificate is also desired but not required.
  • Current OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hr training or ability to obtain.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation:Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.

Salary Range

USD $64,584.00 - USD $85,000.00 /Yr.
