POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Safety Manager, Mission Critical, is a senior safety leader responsible for driving safety excellence across Veit's Mission Critical construction projects. This role provides direct leadership, consultation, and oversight for large-scale, high-profile data center and mission critical projects, ensuring alignment with Veit safety standards, client expectations, and regulatory requirements.

This role serves as a strategic safety partner to operational teams, project leadership, clients, trade partners, and safety professionals, fostering a proactive safety culture focused on incident prevention, hazard recognition, planning, accountability, and continuous improvement. The Senior Safety Manager plays a critical role in supporting Veit's growth in the mission critical market by ensuring world-class safety performance while reinforcing Veit's commitment that every employee returns home safely every day.

This position requires extensive travel and field presence, with approximately 90-100% travel supporting projects across multiple states.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mission Critical Safety Leadership

  • Serve as the safety leader supporting Veit's mission critical and data center construction operations nationwide.
  • Establish strong partnerships with project executives, project managers, superintendents, clients, and trade partners to achieve world-class safety performance.
  • Champion a zero-incident culture through visible leadership, coaching, engagement, and accountability at all levels.
  • Provide consistent safety leadership throughout all phases of project planning, mobilization, execution, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Ensure safety remains integrated into production planning, operational decision-making, and daily field activities.

Project Safety Oversight & Risk Management

  • Provide direct oversight of safety performance across multiple mission critical projects simultaneously.
  • Conduct comprehensive site audits, inspections, observations, and field assessments to proactively identify and mitigate risk.
  • Lead project risk reviews and participate in pre-task planning, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA), and critical lift reviews.
  • Verify implementation and effectiveness of site-specific safety plans, permits, and client-required safety programs.
  • Support project teams in identifying emerging risks associated with accelerated schedules, complex logistics, energized systems, confined spaces, crane operations, excavation activities, and high-risk construction work.
  • Ensure corrective actions are developed, communicated, and effectively implemented.

Client Partnership & Mission Critical Excellence

  • Build trusted relationships with mission critical clients, owners, construction managers, and trade partners.
  • Represent Veit during client audits, leadership meetings, safety stand-downs, and executive safety reviews.
  • Collaborate with clients to ensure compliance with project-specific safety requirements and contractual obligations.
  • Support project pursuits and preconstruction efforts by providing safety expertise and demonstrating Veit's safety capabilities.
  • Serve as a safety ambassador, reinforcing Veit's reputation for industry-leading safety performance and operational excellence.

Incident Prevention, Investigation & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead investigations of incidents, near misses, property damage events, and high-potential exposures.
  • Facilitate root cause analysis and development of sustainable corrective actions.
  • Track, analyze, and communicate safety performance metrics, trends, and leading indicators.
  • Utilize data, field observations, and lessons learned to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Share best practices and lessons learned across mission critical and broader company operations.

Safety Program Development & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, federal, state, local, and client-specific safety requirements.
  • Support development, implementation, and continuous improvement of company safety policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of regulatory changes, industry trends, and emerging best practices.
  • Partner with operational leaders to ensure consistent application of Veit safety standards across all project locations.
  • Coordinate regulatory inspections and serve as a key point of contact for safety-related agency interactions when required.

Training, Coaching & Workforce Development

  • Mentor and develop site safety specialists, safety consultants, project leaders, and field personnel.
  • Provide coaching and leadership to project teams regarding hazard recognition, risk mitigation, and safety leadership practices.
  • Develop and deliver safety training.
  • Support workforce development efforts focused on improving safety competency, engagement, and accountability.
  • Reinforce a culture where frontline employees actively participate in identifying hazards and improving safety performance.

People Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide leadership and direction to assigned safety personnel supporting mission critical operations.
  • Build strong working relationships across Operations, Fleet, Workforce Development, Human Resources, and Operational Excellence teams.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and employee engagement.
  • Influence stakeholders without direct authority to achieve safety objectives and operational alignment.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive construction safety experience with at least 5 years supporting large-scale mission critical, data center, industrial, or complex construction projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading safety programs across multiple states and job locations.
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA regulations, ANSI standards, and construction safety best practices.
  • Proven ability to influence project teams and operational leaders while driving a strong safety culture.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action management.
  • Strong understanding of high-risk construction operations including excavation, crane operations, critical lifts, confined space entry, energized work, heavy equipment operations, and utility construction.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with experience leveraging safety data and performance metrics.
  • Ability to excel in fast-paced, high-growth project environments with demanding client expectations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)
  • OSHA 500 Certification
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification
  • Experience supporting hyperscale data center construction projects

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • Hire, train, coach, develop, and conduct performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Address employee performance or conduct concerns in a timely manner and in accordance with company policy.
  • Plan, document, and deliver meaningful performance feedback, including timely recognition and coaching.
  • Ensure new hires are properly onboarded and trained, and support cross-training within the department to promote continuous employee development.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, and development for assigned Site Safety Specialists and Safety Consultants.
  • Leads safety efforts across multiple mission critical projects and geographic regions while influencing operational leaders, project teams, subcontractors, and client stakeholders.

OTHER

  • This is a safety-sensitive position.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment and ongoing substance testing requirements.
  • Ability to travel nationally on a full-time basis, with approximately 90-100% travel.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and non-traditional schedules as required by project demands.
  • Frequent field presence required on active construction sites and within mission critical facilities.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain all client-required access credentials and security clearances.

Additional Job Description:

Base Compensation: $150,000 - $160,000

The base salary range may vary depending on geographic location, applicant skills, and prior relevant experience.
